WARNING: I have been trying to get Total to release my sons cell number to transfer to another carrier since mid-December 2021. We finally gave up and activated his phone with another carrier and got a new number. Several emails, phone calls, and chat sessions have gotten me nowhere, no real person ever returns the call and messages to cancel the service are not fulfilled. I have resorted to deciding to just report the charges as fraud on my credit card and documented the contact attempts. If you want to keep your number, I'd stay away from them. The service was marginally okay for a teenager for the price but personally I would have been very upset to have to change my number. The service is still active and not cancelled.

I do see many people asking about unlocking policy.

Well as per the new policy after take over from Verizon in November,Tracphone has updated its unlocking policy for apple devices to be 60 days post activation if activated after Nov 23rd-2021

That said,I have reached to multiple customer care rep and have even called and the fact that it gets unlocked after 60 days is something they all echoed but there was difference on if it active service or just first month of activation. There is no proven way until Jan 23rd to see when this first set of deals got launched to see how it goes.

The unlocking policy does mention it will automatically unlock after 60 days - But if some one or most of the folks trading in should not have a problem .If you plan to keep this phone for a longer run and use it I would activate the service for the second month to avoid any hassle in pushing Customer rep to unlock .As i did call out we will have to wait to see how it actually works. Its an additional $20-$22 to get some total wireless prepadi cards on sale or deals.

In the worst case if this not does not get honored we can still encash for trade in or other options to sell this for cash.

Any one with still having doubts on the unlock policy can contact customer care for their satisfaction before they jump in - however as i mentioned its more of waiting game as I did realize it was not consistent reply.

On using aftermarket parts: same for car repair. If you crash your car, the repair shop is not necessarily going to re-build back your car with new OEM parts either.

If you plan to trade it in the phone back to Apple then the XR is a better deal. XR costs $120 for $200 trade-in value. 11 costs $250 for $300 trade-in value.
But keep in mind if parts have been replaced by someone other than Apple, you may get less than $200 or rejected altogether. In addition, warning messages may appear that did not when you originally purchased it. Pchung6 can attest to that when Apple inspected the TW XR.

Will Apple really be looking that carefully (opening up the phone, inspecting each component) before accepting the trade-in?

Yeah, it's kind of crazy how tight of a grip Apple has managed to keep on the industry. Imagine if BMW made it so that when you replaced your car battery with one from Autozone instead of an OEM one, the headlights only came on at half brightness and the radio was disabled. There's nothing wrong with the aftermarket battery and absolutely no legitimate reason to sabotage the car for using it, but BMW tries to claim that they add those limits in order to guarantee proper performance of the car because they're concerned that such a battery might not be able to handle the car's demands. Then, when Autozone comes up with a way to bypass the ridiculous BMW booby trap by adjusting a code in the car, BMW then tries to claim that the customer bought a "fake battery".

Hey, Apple is a for-profit company and it doesn't surprise me that they would push the limits of their powers as such a huge company. That doesn't really bother me … it's just the amount of people who fall for their sham of trying to label aftermarket parts "fake" or "counterfeit" or whatever. Setting some codes so that the Apple-built software "thinks" it's an original Apple product to bypass their sabotage is not at all the same thing as fraudulently selling something to a consumer under the guise of all-original. The product here was sold as reconditioned and some people seem to be unfamiliar with what that means. There are all kinds of reconditioned products out there and a huge amount of them use aftermarket parts.

So there may be where the debate is. If you're buying to trade in (make money, etc) and wherever / whomever you do the trade in rejects it due to inferior parts, is it TW's fault? Did they explicitly say the phone used Apple-approved refurbishing companies? Idk. If the phone just works as expected (all the SW and HW features) I think TW fulfilled their obligations. Again, I'm just thinking as a user of the phone. If you buy this for trade in profit, of course the stance is different. 🤷🏻 ♂️

Of course not. They do a quick exterior visual inspection and that's it. If it's obvious the screen has been replaced with a poor quality one (not sitting flush) they're going to reject it.

It should be no contest getting the iPhone 11 for $249 over the XR refurbished regardless of OEM parts or not (if intending to keep phone). Problem was the iPhone 11 was not available at the $249 price 2 days ago when the XR was available again.
cb site has $30 for orders over $150.

if you plan to trade in to apple, those are the pros, they know what to look for. if atbest buy, a young pimpled kid will take alook at your phone for a couple of seconds and say yeahhhh....looks good. and give you a bb gc. just like in life, set your expectations accordingly and you will have a life of ZEN.

Has anyone reject their UPS delivery? Will TW charge a restocking fee, or not refund the $25 plan card?

You may not need to, but I can't think of any reason to avoid activating it. It doesn't sound like the TW SIM is very much use without the phone. And there is debate about it, but some say the phone will unlock 60 days after activation, even if not a current TW user. So if you activate the phone and then use the RSIM, you might end up with a legit unlocked phone after 60 days, even if using RSIM unlock in the meantime. That would mean you'd never need to worry about RSIM again if you wipe the phone or sell it, etc.

Others chime in if I'm missing something here … it just seems like there's potential upside and no real downside to activating on TW first. Just because you activate the TW SIM doesn't mean you need to use it after that.

Since the Repairs and Service Expiration Date doesn't match the number of days until Repairs and Service Expires, I plugged the IMEI into Apple's Coverage Checker [apple.com]. That showed me that the number of days is the correct information.
nice, relatively new, how's the condition? Everything works?

Correct me if I'm wrong but apple only inspected parts for repair not for trade in. At least in store.

Everything works fine on mine and GREAT. I white RSIM unlocked it and working like a new phone.

I see the tons of posts about "fake" or non-oem parts the last 2 or 3 days, my goodness, this is not a new phone. Perhaps it's just a return that someone bought as new from TW, Idk. Yes, I know not all are in the same conditions but I doubt ALL went some major non-oem part replacement. My guess is most went through battery replacement which I'm fine with because I have used refurbished iPhones from TW the last 3 years without any issues and they work like new phones. Yes someone here is going to get a problematic refurbished one, keep in mind you're buying a refurbished one, not a new one, so you're rolling the dice and the reason you go for it because of the price and everyone else says theirs looks brand new. I'm not saying you should have 100% faith in TW but I will buy from them before I buy from some stranger on swappa or ebay at this low price. I guess everyone's standard / expectation is different, I have no idea what everyone's motive for this purchase, I'm using mine as backups and for family members. If you use it as a trade in and they don't approve because the unit has been modified enough to make it not eligible then yes I can see that as something to complain about. TW made no promise warranty is covered by Apple but their own warranty (no different than buying any refurbished product anywhere unless they explicitly state it's still covered by manufacturer) so you can't fault them for the legitimacy of remaining Apple warranty shown on the phone; if it legitimate then great for us. I don't know how TW is with returns (I haven't had any problems with the 6 or more refurbished iPhones I bought from them the last 3 years) but if I have problems that would be "my" route to go. Just my 2 cents
If you use it as a trade in and they don't approve because the unit has been modified enough to make it not eligible- Not correct. I received XR in last deal with 100% battery and looked new. I traded in BestBuy for S21 and rep checked the physical condition of the device. No one will turn on the device to check. They will check the device IMEI from i on Home Screen itself and they will move on their system to complete the trade in.
