WARNING: I have been trying to get Total to release my sons cell number to transfer to another carrier since mid-December 2021. We finally gave up and activated his phone with another carrier and got a new number. Several emails, phone calls, and chat sessions have gotten me nowhere, no real person ever returns the call and messages to cancel the service are not fulfilled. I have resorted to deciding to just report the charges as fraud on my credit card and documented the contact attempts. If you want to keep your number, I'd stay away from them. The service was marginally okay for a teenager for the price but personally I would have been very upset to have to change my number. The service is still active and not cancelled.

I do see many people asking about unlocking policy.

Well as per the new policy after take over from Verizon in November,Tracphone has updated its unlocking policy for apple devices to be 60 days post activation if activated after Nov 23rd-2021

That said,I have reached to multiple customer care rep and have even called and the fact that it gets unlocked after 60 days is something they all echoed but there was difference on if it active service or just first month of activation. There is no proven way until Jan 23rd to see when this first set of deals got launched to see how it goes.

The unlocking policy does mention it will automatically unlock after 60 days - But if some one or most of the folks trading in should not have a problem .If you plan to keep this phone for a longer run and use it I would activate the service for the second month to avoid any hassle in pushing Customer rep to unlock .As i did call out we will have to wait to see how it actually works. Its an additional $20-$22 to get some total wireless prepadi cards on sale or deals.

In the worst case if this not does not get honored we can still encash for trade in or other options to sell this for cash.

Any one with still having doubts on the unlock policy can contact customer care for their satisfaction before they jump in - however as i mentioned its more of waiting game as I did realize it was not consistent reply.

Why? The Apple warranty means nothing. If what folks are saying is true about Apple rejecting repairs if the phone has replacement parts, then almost all (except the new ones) have a new battery. Everyone's phone came with a battery that had 100% capacity. No way that's possible if the battery wasn't replaced.
I agree for the most part, but it looks like a lot of these phones were put into original service only months ago. If that's the case, I'm thinking that even the original batteries might still show 100% capacity. They wouldn't start dropping so quickly, would they? I'd almost think they might show 100% for maybe the first year or so? Anyone have an iPhone that was purchased new under a year old they can check the battery percent on?

If about a month old, I can buy that argument. Most phones are between 3-12 months old. Battery will def be less than 100%.

I'm also wondering about the people that got the supposed "new" ones. Could the settings have been manipulated in some way to look like new - can't see TW sellling brand new ones for the refurb price by mistake.

I'm wondering if they were maybe phones that were purchased and opened, but returned before activation or something like that. So they couldn't be sold as new and had to process them for testing like any other return. Checked OK and then dropped into this deal and figured some people will get a bit of a bonus. Or they also could have had some kind of defect from the factory, maybe a burnt out pixel or something.

Long time users know anything is possible. With all these TF/TW iPhone deals lately I'm wondering if Verizon is trying to unload iPhone inventory, many users bought cheap Android deals in the past rather than the more expensive iPhones.
VZ really doesn't have much of a rep for being consumer friendly, so I fear the worst for users going forward.

If you use it as a trade in and they don't approve because the unit has been modified enough to make it not eligible- Not correct. I received XR in last deal with 100% battery and looked new. I traded in BestBuy for S21 and rep checked the physical condition of the device. No one will turn on the device to check. They will check the device IMEI from i on Home Screen itself and they will move on their system to complete the trade in.
Ok I don't know how trade in works or what they look for exactly. My point here, and the point in general, if the phone works as expected and has no issues functionally (HW and SW) I think TW fulfilled their obligations selling the phone and they provide their own short term warranty. We have people here not happy because they believe the phone was refurbished using "non-oem" parts, which I'm not denying is likely for some of the refurb phones. But there are others that aren't happy because they believe the remaining Apple manufacturer warranty is not true or too short or whatever. Did TW promise an Apple warranty? I don't think so. Yeah if the phone I buy is bad I won't be happy and will return it but if it works as good as "new" (that term means differently to different people), I don't fault TW. I'm happy with the phone I got (and the 6 other SE, 7, SE 2K20 I got before that). I see people complaining or more concerned with the Apple manufacturer date remaining than whether their phone works well.

Well said; and original activation date means nothing. I could have the same phone a year before my teenage daughter, and you can be sure mine will be in better overall shape with less screen time for sure. 😆

I would be curious if those lucky few that received a never activated device could actually purchase AppleCare+ or not.

You don't tell me I'm wrong to expect a 1 year warranty left virtually brand new XR for $125.

Last time I got a brand new one, it was never activated. This is how it looks like after activation, you still can buy the apple care. This round I am lucky again, get another brand new one which should arrive tomorrow.

Either refuse it or return it. Returning means $25 less refund since the plan is not refundable. $25 is not end of the world. But the first option gets you full refund.
