An $8 r-sim 13 from eBay worked on an XR i bought from Total Wireless last April. I recall having to try a couple of variants of the *5005* number (last 3 digits were one of 88# or 00#) to dial to before I was able to get to the iccid screen but it did work.
I tried all their instructions and it failed. 0 for 2 now, since I tried Double Sim first.

Then randomly it asked for my Activation Lock login info.

so it finally worked.

not sure it's worth anything since it won't even IMEI unlock the phone so it probably won't do me any good for Sprint tradein.

Apparently I'm too dumb to figure out how to unlock the iPhone XR with turbo sim. This is the sim I bought.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/324430485602

Followed the "instructions" on the listing page, but they are confusing, and I couldn't get it to unlock.
I finally got Rsim to work. See above.

Anyone have experience in getting a replacement of the defective device from total wireless? Are we the one who's responsible for the shipping returns?

You can check the remaining warranty on your phone and if it is defective, go to the closest Apple store and they will replace if needed after going through their diagnostics. or you can spend 30mins to an hour on the phone with TW and they will tell you the same thing

Apparently apple concluded that it is a tampered device and voided the warranty. Total wireless crap customer service are not entertaining either. I am wondering if credit card disputes going to work or not?

fwiw, the phone can be carrier locked for the trade in. It just can't be iCloud locked. So if your plans are to trade it into Sprint, just trade in the phone as is and ignore the rsim as it's not needed.

Isn't there a 60 day warranty from TW? CC should refund if TW refuses to honor it.

This is from the website:
"All refurbished devices purchased from our website come with a 60-day warranty from the original date of sale. If your device is defective, please follow the RMA instructions"

These are reconditioned iPhones and as such, may have aftermarket replacement parts and void Apple warranty, regardless of what the expiration date may show. (They we're not refurbished by Apple.). Going to Apple for repairs may work, but more of a last resort. One user already reported going to Apple for a screen repair. They opened it and determined that it was an aftermarket screen and voided the remaining warranty.

But that's not what most people are saying. I can't do it online for sure. I might get lucky if I call in or go into the right store.

Calling in seems best, since if they are backordered on the phone, it'll take weeks to get it, then weeks more to mail in the trade in.

oh, sorry... I'm specifically talking the Sprint deal. It's worth $800. The other ones seem more flexible

TW rep told me that I have to return phone on my own and then they will also not refund the plan purchase.. so not sure how much I am going to get if I follow the TW return route..

They've never refunded the plan, that's clearly stated - but what's so customer unfriendly are all the fees they can possibly charge.
I'd file with CC & see what happens - they never responded to my PayPal request, & full refund went right through (I received an empty box).

I copied that from their site.
Do they say 60 days in one place and 90 days in another? Wouldn't surprise me, they often have conflicting info & I thought I had seen 90 days when I bought a phone before.
EDIT -
this is page I get when searching for total wireless recertified warranty - & it says 60 days:

https://affirm.totalwireless.com/rma/

this one is under terms and conditions, so 2 different policies, no clue which one is correct but this one says iPhones don't have 90 day warranty?

V. LIMITED WARRANTY

All reconditioned or refurbished phones sold by Total Wireless (except iPhones) have a ninety (90) day limited warranty as do all wireless accessories sold by Total Wireless.

To the extent available for purchase, refurbished iPhones and certified pre-owned phones are not covered by a limited warranty but may be returned for a refund within 30 days of purchase.
