It has good reviews on Amazon and some other websites. Retailing at min $90 elsewhere. I purchased for $55 at Walmart.com. It's a 2 day shipping.. fingers crossed.

Good thing it has HDMI and can be used as external speaker as well. I intend to use Chromecast with this.

This is not 1080p. It has a native resolution of 800x480. It can support 1080p devices, but you won't see native 1090p. If you want native 1080p, you'll need to spend more.

Am I reading that right? 42 lumens? That's very low, the room would need to be pitch black.

The picture quality is most likely on par with other $55 projectors due to the low 42 lumens of white brightness.

I see on another website that mentions 100 lumens. Nothing credible on RCA portal.

These are typically a cheap LCD panel with a bulb shining through it and a lens in front. At this price probably cool for a child, but certainly better options if you spend a bit more.

Explain like I'm 5: what would be a 1080P device in this instance? The screen wouldn't matter, right? Is that a 1080P Blu-ray movie (for example), and would that display in 1080P or 480P?

Side note: a 5' throw distance is pretty nice so you don't need much space to project a good image. (Unless that's some trickery too.)

In any case it's a sweet deal to put a Halloween projection on your house or window if it is lousy as an actual movie projector.

480p (standard def; basically the resolution of a regular DVD) is all you'll get, since that's all the projector is capable of. Advertising as "up to 1080p" is strictly marketing, as almost any 1080p device is capable of downscaling to handle a lower resolution display.

It means you can play your 1080p Blu-ray through it, but it'll look like a 480p DVD.

I don't think it will be bright enough to see much outdoors at night, this is for using in a room where you can close all doors/windows and then might be acceptable. The included image on the product page of folks enjoying a movie in backyard with decorative lighting is totally fake.
Resolution doesn't matter much on crappy dim projectors, but you would never use this to have a readable screen for example displayed from your PC

BTW all the good reviews on the page were bought and paid for

thanks for this, initially thought I would grab this for setting up in the backyard for outdoor movie watching with the kids. Any recommendation for something reasonably priced screen and projector which can be used for summer night say under $200 for the whole event, even if the quality is cheap.

This is 10+ years old tech. At least half of the price now.
