I just saw this at my Home Depot in Pa for $135, grabbed one. Great price with camera included.

So I know very little about garage stuff.

I have a 2004 Genie chain drive with a long spring thing over the door.

Can I use this?

You very much can use it. As long as the spring part is functioning fine, you might even be able to DIY it. Personally having done it several times, I would just pay the $100-$150 for a pro to install. Also, you may choose to get a different model depending on what features you want. The camera is cool, but perhaps you might want a battery back up, a keypad for outside, fancier wall controller etc..
