You can start the process now, but you can always start the process when you get the phone. Getting a shipping label for the trade-in does not take that long 🙂

the only good thing about the se2 might be the fingerprint unlock.
I do like that apple added the feature to unlock the iPhone X and above even if you are wearing a mask if you have an Apple Watch.
The XR is still a great device.
I bought one for my dad back when Costco had some crazy trade in deals for older iPhones.
He is still using it since almost release date and the battery life is great for him as well as the bigger screen.

What is uncertain IS:
Weather we need active service of 60 days
OR
Buy one month, not a second, and just wait 60 from activation for the phone to unlock

Just in case you did not know:
Property over $500 is considered grand theft. Therefore, they had to put in some sort of wording in regards to pricier phones.
The IMEI has to be reported as stolen, BUT you are paying the iPhone in-full. There is no chance for fraud here 🙂 not to worry about that part
