Was 204.00, current deal for next three days. @ Home Depot Online. Not sure how reliable this is, especially battery powered for soldering. But seems like a good deal. Cheers!

I wouldn't pay $99 for this set. Two of the three tools are relatively inferior. The soldering iron and rotary tool aren't particularly good. That leaves a small battery and the mini glue gun for $99. These smaller tools can often be bought from DTO as "blemished" in the $20 range each - and you're not stuck with a typically less-useful battery. DTO "blemished is new w/ warranty - just DTO's way of getting around HD's Ryobi exclusivity FYI.

Ryobi sells more upscale/improved versions of all of these tools. I own the larger glue gun, larger rotary/Dremel station, and hybrid soldering station.

Soldering Iron - purely portability. Not particularly great but it will do basic jobs. The larger hybrid soldering station uses batteries or AC power, has temperature control, and you can swap out the soldering tips easily if you don't like them. I used the hybrid soldering station for landscape wiring and lighting outside - which was great. I solder in the garage or indoors depending on season. No extension cord and a 3 or 4 ah battery lasts plenty long.

Mini-glue gun - good. Thinking about picking one up (separately) despite having the larger one already. The larger glue gun I have gets insanely hot - the glue smokes sometimes. The mini glue gun uses a coil that heats up when on its base, and consumes smaller glue sticks. Way more portable and won't destroy your hands if you drip glue on them. Probably more appropriate for crafting IMO.

Rotary tool - Bad. Most reviews say it's underpowered. The larger rotary tool station is a bit less portable, hybrid (battery or AC power), has a lot more power (adjustable), and comes with a decent set of starter cut-off blades and tips (not a big deal). The larger/hybrid station could use a longer cable that attaches the tool to the station base. Aside from that, I use it constantly. Batteries seem to last forever too.
Over the past year (s) I have got all 3 for wife for her crafts sans she loves it but have paid like $20 or less for each but some were from direct tools.

I use the soldering iron quite a bit, mostly 'cause its so portable and easier than setting up my solder station. It does a pretty well for quick jobs

What's the perceived value/usefulness of each of these? What types of jobs is this portable iron good for? I typically work on electronics so those are done at my Hakko station, I could see some usefulness in the glue gun compared to a corded one. How's the rotary tool if you have a Dremel?

Love my cordless Ryobi glue gun. I didn't realize how much the cord got in my way.

right with you, these are $15-$25 items - hard to make four add up to $99.

No first hand knowledge, but I've seen and heard several not great things about the rotary tool. It seems to be a pretty low power unit. They make a bigger model with more torque that seems to receive much more praise.

As for the glue gun, I own both the big Ryobi and gave my wife the little one. They are so much more convenient that the corded models we'd had previously. The docking station on the little one makes it so much easier as most little corded glue guns don't often weigh enough to keep the cord from dragging it off of a table. The little one gets hot enough work well, but I'm pretty sure the big one somehow concentrates the power of the sun to melt the glue. It is HOT!!!

The solder station is not going to be a Hakko, that's for sure. Better for larger contacts, tinning wire, that kind of thing. If you working in vehicles a lot I can see how the cordless nature would be really nice. Like the rotary tool, Ryobi also makes a larger, better soldering iron. The heat control on that one is better and it's hybrid, so you can use either battery or plug it in with an extension cord. The tips for both units are proprietary, which is a bummer for sure.

Only problem is it drips way more than a cheap one. That mostly fine, hence the drip tray, but still annoying at that price range.

Hah! No, I just do a lot of tinkering and got tired of using a non-adjustable Weller, so I ponied up for a nice adjustable station.

There is two larger ones. One does only high heat. The other does High and Low heat. My understanding is the low heat setting is more useful than the high heat setting. I have one but haven't used it yet.

The low heat setting was useless for me the other day. I'm kinda regretting getting it, might have to give it another whirl and see if that was a one off.

To be clear I meant, in general, people who use glue guns find the low setting on glue guns more useful than the high setting.

I haven't tried mine yet. After reading your comment I'm bracing myself for disappointment.

Perhaps the silver lining is if the low setting is anemic then the high setting is anemic and an animic high setting is probably better than standard high setting.

Also, I'm wondering if there are glue sticks with different melt points. So perhaps theres gluesticks that work fine with the low setting.

Again, I'm not a gluestick pro. There's a lot of speculation on my part.

I wish there was just a dial to choose heat level. I might have to backpedal and get a wired version with a dial. I have a Ryobi 40V inverter and battery so I can still get away with portability on outlet tools that don't run longer than 15 min to an hour, depending.
