Was 204.00, current deal for next three days. @ Home Depot Online. Not sure how reliable this is, especially battery powered for soldering. But seems like a good deal. Cheers!

I wouldn't pay $99 for this set. Two of the three tools are relatively inferior. The soldering iron and rotary tool aren't particularly good. That leaves a small battery and the mini glue gun for $99. These smaller tools can often be bought from DTO as "blemished" in the $20 range each - and you're not stuck with a typically less-useful battery. DTO "blemished is new w/ warranty - just DTO's way of getting around HD's Ryobi exclusivity FYI.

Ryobi sells more upscale/improved versions of all of these tools. I own the larger glue gun, larger rotary/Dremel station, and hybrid soldering station.

Soldering Iron - purely portability. Not particularly great but it will do basic jobs. The larger hybrid soldering station uses batteries or AC power, has temperature control, and you can swap out the soldering tips easily if you don't like them. I used the hybrid soldering station for landscape wiring and lighting outside - which was great. I solder in the garage or indoors depending on season. No extension cord and a 3 or 4 ah battery lasts plenty long.

Mini-glue gun - good. Thinking about picking one up (separately) despite having the larger one already. The larger glue gun I have gets insanely hot - the glue smokes sometimes. The mini glue gun uses a coil that heats up when on its base, and consumes smaller glue sticks. Way more portable and won't destroy your hands if you drip glue on them. Probably more appropriate for crafting IMO.

Rotary tool - Bad. Most reviews say it's underpowered. The larger rotary tool station is a bit less portable, hybrid (battery or AC power), has a lot more power (adjustable), and comes with a decent set of starter cut-off blades and tips (not a big deal). The larger/hybrid station could use a longer cable that attaches the tool to the station base. Aside from that, I use it constantly. Batteries seem to last forever too.
Over the past year (s) I have got all 3 for wife for her crafts sans she loves it but have paid like $20 or less for each but some were from direct tools.

Unless in some remote location, if you are going to be attached to a cord that is attached to a battery that needs to be charged, just buy a decent temperature variable iron and plug it into the wall.

Can get the battery, charger, and glue gun for $40 now. Decent deal.

That leaves paying $60 for a soldering iron and a reportedly bad rotary tool as bare tools. Bad deal.

Or you can get a pinecil soldering iron for ~$30 if you value portability

The soldering iron apparently has a single temp setting which really limits its use. I find being able to dial in a temp (at least have a few settings!) is huge help when going from large wire soldering like automotive to trying to fix a loose battery wire on a small toy.

I imagine this would be about worthless for same DIY soldering kits and circuit board repair but could be great around the garage.

Thank you for this detailed review with comparison to other options. Some people just throw out their opinions and say yes and no with nothing to compare to.

I have various soldering irons. A gas powered portable soldering iron is a way better way to go; it takes a lot of current to heat a soldering tip, batteries just don't cut it.

I use the soldering iron quite a bit, mostly 'cause its so portable and easier than setting up my solder station. It does a pretty well for quick jobs
they kinda half ass on the "cordless" part...but its kinda impossible to make it light weight weight ...almost better to get a butane one.

Honestly, if you're looking for a good portable soldering iron the TS100 is great, and can be used with a battery pack for portability. I bought one 4 years ago or so and it has replaced my at home variable temp station (it was a fairly inexpensive model from circuit specialists) it's so good for the price. It won't beat any variable temp station that you pay over a thousand for, but it definitely competes with or outright beats a lot of them under that price point.

Edit:

Looks like the pinecil may be the newest incarnation of what the TS100 started, suggest looking into that as well as another poster noted above.

I bought the Dremel for ~$20 last year, even after reading the negative reviews, and I've been pleased. Better than anything Harbor Freight has in that price range, plus the flexibility of not being tethered to a wall. I've built two P80 G3 lowers with it, as well as some random around the house stuff and finishing work with my 3D printed stuff. I think a lot of reviewers had too high of expectations for a tool that can be had at that price.

That said, this deal is a bit meh. It's not completely bad, but you could piece this kit together for about the same price or a bit cheaper (or a LOT cheaper if you don't mind refurb/blem from DTO) by watching sales.

Larger rotary tool is not hybrid. Only battery powered

You are correct! I just looked again. I never tried to use AC/120v - a 4ah battery lasts forever in it.

What's the perceived value/usefulness of each of these? What types of jobs is this portable iron good for? I typically work on electronics so those are done at my Hakko station, I could see some usefulness in the glue gun compared to a corded one. How's the rotary tool if you have a Dremel?
Get the inverter, and you can use any dremel you want that has a standard outlet cable.

Same for glue gun, and soldering iron.

150w inverter is good for up to 1.25a output at 120v. Larger model Dremels may not work
