I have a pair of these in a wired backhaul configuration and absolutely love them. Much better signal strength than my prior Orbi RBK53 setup I switched from. So far, not a single connection issue.

While this is a great price, even without the gift card, be aware of Neweggs no return - no exchange policy on this item. Caveat emptor.

As an FYI it's currently available for $299.99 from Amazon.

I would wait for Wi-Fi sixE before dumping money into this kind of crap. ASUS 86u mesh works great for now

The surprising answer is yes, the older clients still get benefits of speed increases and better connections. This was proven by multiple testers using wifi 6 AP's and comparing results to their previous wifi 5 AP's with an older client. While you wont hit speeds 700Mbps+ you will more consistently get speeds closer to the 500Mbps top range of wifi 5 when using a wifi 6 router or access point. That is off course using a 3x3 wifi 5 client and on the 5ghz band. The 2.4Ghz also sees increases as I mentioned in the previous response, prior to wifi 6 most 2.4ghz speeds never really got over 90 Mbps consistently with wifi 6 those same 2.4ghz clients have been able to hit around 170Mbps on the top end.

The point of getting the AX wifi 6 clients is to more consistently get those 600-700Mbps speeds while some router and mesh systems on the high end are able to get around 1.4Gbps which means over wifi you can utilize a full 1Gbps fiber line without a Ethernet cable and still have extra room.

People really hype up dual band vs triband, but with how fast AX Wifi 6 is for almost 90% of households unless major environmental issues dual band will work like a charm, thats with using the systems purely wireless.

Wifi 6 in general, does not matter if its dual band or triband will be about 200 Mbps faster on average than anything wifi 5 has. Wifi 5 on wireless tops out at around 550Mbps while wifi 6 unless you have a really really entry level router starts around 600Mbps and only goes up from there. You off course need to see an AX client to see the benefits, passively wifi 6 helps the 2.4ghz and makes it a bit speedier, some clients able to pull around 140-160Mbps on the top end, which is great for longer range and older networks.

To answer your question on the X60 vs RBK50 you will get about an extra 150Mbps out of the X60 on the high end since it hits around 700Mbps at the main router, and it can hold speeds up to 400Mbps even at a good distance. The only downside is the satellites will all average around 400Mbps on the high end and at a distance top out around 150-200Mbps. Which means the triband RBK50 at the satellites can at times be right around the same speed or even slightly faster since its using its 3rd band for independent backhaul. If you were to wire the X60 satellites the speeds would shoot up to just slightly slower than the main unit, on average around 50/100 Mbps slower than the main routing unit, if you were to hardwire.

To put it all in perspective the system is still fast enough without hardwire to handle anything anyone is going to use the internet for and then some.
if the device is an older one and does not support wifi 6, would wifi 6 router still give faster speed than wifi 5?

Might check out the Deco X60 (AX3000). 3-pack for less than the price of this. I have zero issues with mine (all wired).
Can confirm. I switched from the eero trash and can't be happier.

I'm really struggling here. I bought a tp-link deco x68 (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08Z492RK9/). I intended to setup a wired back haul in my new house. I need at least moderate customizability (dns settings and ideally VPN functionality).

Will this one be better for me? The tp-link looks like it has more overall throughput, but a good amount of that is for the dedicated backhaul (which I wouldn't be using if it's wired?).

Do what I did...get your own router that fits what you want it to do (VPN, port forwarding, DNS, whatever) and set the Deco's to AP mode. Stick with wired backhaul and have the system you always wanted!

I own the XT8 version and I would not recommend these because of Asus horrible support for firmware issues. My wifi cuts out for ~10s every hour or so, making video calls and gaming painful. This is a known issue and the only solution is to downgrade to a 1.5 year old firmware with known security flaws to get internet stability.

Caveat emptor.

I have XT8 also and Version 3.0.0.4.386.42095 which came out 2021/08/11 has been rock solid without a single problem so far.
Actually a new firmware just came out today: Version 3.0.0.4.386.46061.
Hopefully the new firmware will resolve problems for you..

I have the XT8 and would HIGHLY recommended it. The connection is very stable and I'm using wireless backhaul. The routers are about 25 feet apart... no line of sight. I easily max out my 500 Mbps connection throughout 90% of my house. I have about 20 devices connected, including 3 wired connections to the satellite. I've only had connection issues maybe 3 times for the past 1.5 years.

Yes, buy this if you want control and customizing. Unlike tp-link you can actually log into Asus router interface with PC browser and has UI for setting changes for your needs.
I might also add that overall throughput doesn't mean much especially if you plan on having a wired backhaul setup. This model XD6 was meant for the wired backhaul setup, whereas the XT8 version which I own was meant for wireless setup.

Another issue with the tp-link deco is that they don't permit you to disable remote Management...

Is this better than the Linksys Velop ax4200?? I currently have an unopened Linksys but I am planning to return as I was able to fix the issues in my current Asus ac66r. I was having connection issues and also having trouble updating the firmware so I manually updated it and it's been running fine now and it's been an overall great router for about six years so wondering if I should upgrade or wait for wifi 6e to future proof?

Any major differences between this and XT8 other than speed?
