Sony for:
- Size
- Darker rooms
- Better sound
- PS5

Samsung for:
- Brighter rooms
- Need for viewing at wide angles
- Better UI
- XboxSX

Both are really good choices and I think it mostly comes down to the location you will put it in. Light in room, how far your seats are from the TV, what angle from the TV, etc.
I'm on the lookout for any deal on the 85".
Can you clarify why one is better for the PS5 and the other better for XboxSX?

I had a 65 curved Samsung and it never had one issue but this neoqled model looked so good I sold the curved one and bought the 85. I agree with you but I received a less than pleasant experience with Samsung care. First it was gonna be A tech come out then it was they don't have 6he parts available and we will replace the unit then after I got my hopes up they said they couldn't replace it but instead only give me back my purchase price less the tax I paid. So in the end I getting back $3,000.00 but not the $279.00 worth of taxes I paid and like I stated I still have the tv and they still have the money so right now all I have is Samsung paperweight. Every person I talked to in the resolutions dept told me something different. Leaves a bad taste in this consumers mind.
Had the same experience with a Samsung refrigerator. Failed one week after delivery, and would not replace it as the problem was not reported within the first 24 hours. multiple attempts by them to repair, no parts…refund after two months of the runaround….MINUS the tax so not a good result. Terrible customer service. Will never buy Samsung again unless its easy to return…cuz their support is garbage.

I was also...can't justify added cost for the QN90 considering same panel in the 85" TVs. I gave up, made an offer on verdetoe for $2900 today and it was accepted. Not bad.
Wait can you explain please? I've been waiting since I missed the last QN90A 85" for $2700ish. I have a bright living room and was told the QN90A was a must over the others. Thank you.

QN85 85" TV has VA panel which is same as QN90. QN85 TVs which are smaller than 85" have IPS panels.

Poster above is correct...biggest difference I can see is the qn90 has the one connect box. Supposedly brightness is higher on the 90 also, but 85 is eye searingly bright already.

I went to local best buy and was able to compare them next to each other love...I genuinely couldn't spot any differences. Even the bezel/materials are identical. I couldn't get to the back of either to see what differences if any were there.

I have both a 65" x90j (2021) and Q8DT (2020). For a 65/75", the Sony is a slightly better picture in my opinion, between my 2 TVs. The OS is Google TV and much better than tizen if you care about that. Since 2020, as some have mentioned, Samsung took a step back from the VA panel to a version of IPS (ADS). The issue with that is a poor contrast ratio compared to the VA. I cannot say how good the picture is on the '21 Q8xA in the same room. I can say Sony's firmware is still lagging behind and I do have more issues with support on the Sony for things like VRR. ALLM works fine. I have both an XSX and PS5. Both look amazing on the Sony and the refresh rate is quite good. The Sony also gets bright like the Samsung I have, so room with a lot of light shouldn't be much of a problem. I'd recommend the Sony, only for the money and especially if you are going to use the smart features a lot. As for HDMI, both have 4 ports. On Sony leds, there are 2 2.1 ports but to my dissatisfaction, one port is eARC so you lose a port if you have an audio system that will use eARC. The Samsung has 1 2.1 port but the eARC is on a different port, so that was a wash for me. That's something in practice that was a bummer because it's not obvious from the specs on the Sony that you cannot have a XSX @120, PS5 @120 and an eARC soundbar at the same time, unless the soundbar/reciever can pass through 2.1 (few soundbars can). I solved the challenge by buying an HDMI 2.1 switch. All-in-all, for the money, I'd say get an x90j. Especially if you can go up to a 75 reasonably in the space you watch it. I really like Samsung and my Q8 is fantastic, but the difference in price between q80 and x90 is too far to choose the Samsung. It's really a shame Samsung took that approch. If Sony gets the firmware fixed, which they are supposed to have done later this month, it's the x90 hands down.

Ohhh I think I'm tracking so the 85" QN85 has the same as the 85" QN90.

Sooooo I'm going to look at the QN85 85" now. Thank you!

Thank you my Best Buy doesn't have them both on display sadly.

You can get the 75 inch qn90a for under 2200 at ielectrica and tv bros. Hoping the major retailers start having better deals on it especially best buy where I have total tech.

What is the connect box?
It's is called One connect...basically, instead of having to run multiple HDMI cables through the wall from your cabinet to your TV for multiple inputs, you have a single "one connect" wire from the back of your TV. That wire connects to the oneconnect box, which has all of your HDMI, optical, etc inputs.

It's a really nice system because you can change devices without having to ever get to the back of the TV, and you never have to pull another cable throught the wall. My previous Samsung JU7100 65" has it and I absolutely love it. With that being said, I couldn't justify the premium for the QN90 just to get the one connect...I'm going to pull 3 hdmis through the wall in case I ever need them, and problem solved.
