You're thinking of the first gen dot. This is the original full size version and many still consider it to be the best of the lot because they cheaped out on later models. I have three and I've sampled gen 2 and 3 and the original still sounds superior. Newer isn't always better.

Yep. The speed/response and the wifi connectivity can be a bit sketchy on 1st gen, but the sound quality is exceptional compared to most later units.

probably more then you and i would think, but they are getting a lot from trade-ins.

while they didnt have any $5 deals on the plugs this past holidays, the previous 2 years they did and people most likely have 2-3 (or more).

FYI 1st generation Echo still has a trade-in value of $25 at Amazon even if a refurbished unit.

$25 off plus 25% off a new Echo makes this slick enough
