Just for historical context, I got the premium edition at Newegg last year for $26.99. So it's cheaper this year at $24.99. One of the few things not destroyed by inflation yet....

Do be aware that it says that the "state" is included, but you have to pay to submit your state filing if you do it electronically. If you don't procrastinate you can submit it via mail for free.

Is this only a good deal for folks who need a complex return, as oppose to standard deductions? There are products like Credit Karma Tax that do this for free and work for a majority of people.

I usually use freetaxusa but i always have to pay to file state anyway. Maybe it's worth it?

Free ones will do that assuming you aren't itemizing/deducting losses. Deluxe + State is more than enough if you want a nice interface where you can import things easily and want to itemize. Premium is more for owning a business.
