This device runs OS6[amazon.com]where there are still devices running OS5[amazon.com]. OS7 is on the Fire TV 4K Max, but that device is also $15 more and unless you need WiFi 6, PiP or the faster interface, it may not be worth spending the extra cash on now vs waiting for it to come down in price over the next couple years. I'd be more interested in any hard evidence of OS5/6 not living much longer, like an End-of-Support announcement. But the fact that Amazon is still selling this stick brand new, doesn't jump out as something that's going to be deprecated soon.

You really need to get a device with the os7+.. Tihs is old OS and will not not live as long as the newer devices.. spend $5 less or $10 more to get a OS7 device..

I have found some side loaded apps that will not run on OS5. OS5 and OS6 do not allow by default using a thumbdrive/otg for added system storage. OS7 works out of the box for that.. The 8gb that comes stock on all of the sticks (Amazon and GCC) is crippled.
FWIW.. Amazon has the 4k stick for $30 this week (free shipping) with the newer remote with the 4 direct link buttons and a guide button.. BB and Target also has the same deal.. For $5 less you get the newer os and remote so I would get the normal Firestick for $20. If you want to go that route and have rewards to spend Staples also has the $20 sticks.. I have cubes in my house because I was sick of the 8gb storage and are a bit faster, comes with a wired ethernet adapter and use a regular barrel conector for power. I used the thumb drive/OTG with my 4k sticks (now they are in the parts drawer), but that required a bunch of modding and special format instructions to complete..
This stick is way slow for me. It's slowing down internet as well.!! Any tips to make it faster? I have already tried factory reset. Internet speed is not an issue!!

Has Amazon truly killed off any of their Fire products at this stage? Even Google has abandoned the first generation Chromecast for future updates, but although plenty of my older Amazon Fire devices aren't getting many updates they're also still happily serving up content (including from third party applications like AppleTV+).
if you purchase directly from Amazon, you also get a 20% off for trading in the old device, PLUS a $3 bonus Amazon.com Gift Card for a movie on the Firestick, or any Amazon purchase.

The sick shouldn't slow down the internet. Is this specific to your device with the stick? Have you checked the connection signal strength?
The new Max is the way to go. It is substantially faster. I had this stick in our master bedroom and replaced it with the Max. The difference was night and day. Plus I picked it up for $35. It's worth it to wait for that sale price.
Spend $15 less and pickup the ONN Android TV for $19.99 from Walmart. It has full Google Play and file access and runs almost all Android apps. Plus Stadia. And feels so much faster than FireStick. Plus it won't become 1/2 speed suddenly after updates in one year.
