Thumbs up OP.

I'm surprised this isn't blowing up (well Newegg I guess?).

Fast, cheap, TLC, 1665 TBW endurance, seems pretty good?

Do you need the extra 500gb? Then yeah, probably.
Not really; I got a 256gb Samsung fit plus to store most of.my movies, but this is a better drive, right? It has the same read/write speeds, as well as DRAM (small amount?), 33% more cache (16gh vs 12gb), but less layers (64) than mine (112). No idea the practicality of any that. I'm not doing anything but productivity and watching videos.

Best NVMe deal I've ever seen, especially the 2TB model. Unfortunately Gen3 makes it incompatible with PS5. But in almost all other use cases, the performance should be largely similar to most Gen4 NVMe.

what's the reliability of this brand, or more importantly, this model? warranty is the same as the WD Black and XPG Gammix S70 Blade that I have, but the rocket (2TB version) is cheaper by at least $80. is this a case of you get what you pay for? Or is this an actual slick deal?
This is the Rocket gen 3, there's a gen 4 that's more expensive.

I have 2 of these (1TB) one in a desktop and one in a laptop. Both have been great, no issues for a few years now. Grabbed another for a near future build.

If you don't need the extra space, than I wouldn't even bother with the hassle.

Would this be as good in terms of power efficiency and generated heat for laptop use? I read from either toms or anands that hynix p31 is good for laptop use. TYVMIA.

Just a heads up on this one: They changed the controller mid-production.

It started out with a Phison E12 and more DRAM, then they moved to a Phison E12S with less DRAM.

You may not notice in real world use, outside of transferring tens of GB at a time, but just thought I'd point it out.

I have the version with the original E12 (purchased at $109 on another slickdeal) and it's been kicking along for almost 3 years.

Still waiting to replace my 1TB NVMe SSD I bought four years ago for $69. Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron stop colluding to milk the consumer at 1-2TB kkthx. We are ready to be cheated at 8-128TB.

Digitimes: Samsung new NAND flash capacity coming online in 2H21 may worsen price falls.

https://www.tomshardware.com/news...n4-aic-ssd

Everyone has been brainwashed to eat these high price because xyz reasons. It's easier and cheaper to print ssd NAND memory than make a hard drive yet you don't see those staying stationary at 1-2TB for the past 4 years.
