1st was a 720P LCD (bulb) projector, back when they first went under $3K and the best home material was 480P DVD's. Was mindblowing for its time, to have the theater experience at home.
2nd was a compact laser 720P DLP projector. Being laser was huge usability, no more long bulb warmup and cooldown times that relegated the first to dedicated movie nights, finally for daily viewing. But still a relatively long throw, meaning the projector is within a few feet in front or back of you, with fan noise and folks stepping in front of the projection detracting from the immersion. Also still challenging to set up and maintain edge-to-edge squareness and focus, and in most multi-use living areas has to be re-done each time.
3rd is the VAVA (faux) 4K laser UST. Laser, UST are the true advancements for casual daily use and esp for first-time buyers. Less likely to get jostled out of place, and even if it does, it has magical autofocus and once leveled just need to rotate it to get the picture square, slide back and forth a few inches to adjust the screen size. Much brighter laser that I can still use it for TV shows when the room is not dark - I don't know if the laser is more powerful than my other laser, or that the short-throw just reflects more light back to the viewer. At night, the contrast is better in light AND dark scenes, even without inky blacks and with some light spill from other rooms, surprisingly, and that is what finally created the most immersive feel.
I finally see a picture so sharp to be immersive, I notice the pores on actor's faces, and the imperfections in their makeup, and single hairs out of place. Only some is due to the 4K, as I also notice more on 1080P material. I did bring the viewing distance down from 10' to 8' (all on a 10' screen), but I didn't notice these details on the other projectors even when standing closer to the screen.
Could wait for under $2000 for faux 4K Laser UST for slightly more added punch, but I think $1100 for 1080P Laser UST is a good deal and will get most of the immersive benefit lacking in earlier technologies. Would not advise bulb or regular throw, even at 4K, for a first-timer, unless you have a completely dedicated room.
I'm well over thirty and am Brooklyn born and bred. A lot of setbacks and starting over in multiple industries. It's pretty common for this city to be honest. Staying positive and finally making upward moves in my latest industry so all in due time. Somewhat frugal ergo I'm able to purchase the aforementioned necessities for much much less than 1K. Cheers
Why use projector at all when you can buy huge TVs?
What am I missing?

Thanks for letting me know. Xiomi must fixed those problems. It was a while ago when I purchased this projector. No complaints other than few hassles that I had to go through. Great projector.
Hey respect to you! At least you're not like some people who spend money just to look like "they got it", but they're buried in debt.
