I have a couple this purchased within the last 3-5 years at $6-$7 each. It works well. The design of the switch is to avoid plugging and unplugging. When you have more than one device, you need to trace each cable is for which device after unplug. With a switch, you just put a label on it or remember which port. I use it to turn off a webcam and a microphone whenever I don't need it.

I'm kind of a stickler for having my wires arranged properly and hidden from view. It triggers some sort of OCD tendencies when it doesn't look perfect. So something like this is perfect for me.

Yes I bought one a few weeks ago, has a jack. Not sure what the best way to find a compatible power supply is though.
or one can just buy the power / hub (the whole shabam-shabnudel)

application is the key. i use this to connect/disconnect my microphone, camera and backup drive.
Almost exactly how I use mine. Even without the switches and with such a short cable, having this mounted under the desk makes for a cleaner setup and an easier place to plug things.

bought this from the last sale, and overall, it does as it's advertised. I would caution that when I have 2 USB drives plugged next to each other, when I pressed the switch to turn off one, the other drive shows a quick disconnect/connect. Minor annoyance.

How would that be useful when you can just unplug it from the hub instead
I have one of these, and I'm getting a second for my laptop bag. Believe me, if you're doing work where you either need to switch devices regularly, or use several different ones, but preferably not at the same time, being able to press a button with one hand rather than having to grab a hub with both hands and futz around with plugging and unplugging, you'll quickly learn to love the buttons.

For example, I have three different Arduino boards regularly plugged into mine to test code against different shields and processors (the Nano is especially finicky). Being able to select which one I want to access with a button press is a hell of a lot nicer than constantly (un)plugging them. Also, it makes cycling the connection a lot nicer.

how many hands does it take to unplug a device vs pressing a button? And this also reduces clutter and wear and tear on the USB connectors/cables. Come on man, just buy one. These are only 10 smackers, don't be so stingy.
I already have 2 from prior sales.

I couldn't find a C-in, A-out hub with buttons, but you likely could just use a C>A adapter with this hub. There are plenty of CiAo hubs though without buttons.

I don't mind connecting drives permanently but for camera it's a necessity to have a hard switch ON/OFF. Don't want to end up like Danial

If it takes more than 4 inches, it's a sin and will cause you to go to hell. Spread the news.
