And we joined BJ's when they entered Michigan a comply years ago - due to the gift card bribe they offered.
BJ's might have woken up and realized they had to grow their scale to survive…
But they are a poor stepchild to the other two war house clubs. Their membership is worth no more than $25 to us. In fact, if you let your membership expire, about 90-180 days later they'll come offering a $25 renewal vs the $55 standard fee.
They fail to complete in many ways but few…
1) Coupon hell. The only way to get their prices competitive with the other two clubs is by laboriously going thru their digital coupons. Every month. It is almost as if they never do competitor price checks.
2) Poorly and inconsistently managed.
3) Their gas prices tend to be $0.10 higher per gallon vs SAMs and Costco. Before and after corresponding rewards at each brand. (C & S clubs are located a mile or less away.)
On the plus side:
1) The product depth in each category - for food only - is often greater. Often more choices. But the inventory can be shaky.
2) There tend to be more employees than customers in the store, so it is a peaceful shopping experience and parking is easy!
Do i need to get a physical card to use it? i guess i should if my phone is down anyway.
can you pay by phone or credit card only? or bj's gift card?
Can we do this solely online or do we needed to visit a eligible store to activate the memebership? The closest store to us is excluded from the offer but have another one an extra 10 min drive away. I'm assume once activated they don't care which bj's you shop at.

1. If you are ok with larger packaging, you can get a better deal I do some shopping there for my parents. They like Ball Park Franks. 24 pack is 9.49 this month - so 3.13/pack - ShopRite is 5.99, Target 4.29. They like Pep Farm bread - BJs is 3.99 for a 2 pack. 3.99 for 1 pack in ShopRite and Target. Deli Meats - Dietz and Watson, 6.99/# (with the $2 off this month), Store brand (comparable) 5.99/#. Everyday perdue pricing is similar to ShopRite on sale prices - yes, its a bigger pack but you can break it down and freeze it.
2. We like Cascade and find BJs has better pricing than Target.
I think you can go in the app (or online) and look for the brands you like and see what their pricing is. Good luck!

(2) no idea - always used a different enail. Try it with same and let us know.
(3) online only is fine (account was fully active in the app immediately upon online purchase) although I doubt if you go to an excluded store to get your physical card (optional) they'll tell you to go to the other location to get your card. I doubt they even know the source of your membership purchase.
(4) membership will work anywhere
How to check if the promotion is applied to my account ?
As for why would anyone want to go to BJ's, I agree that Costco's better overall. I can't quite pin it down but it just is, and I haven't gotten gas at either for years since locals ones don't offer it. Costco has better breads but BJ's has a bigger selection. Better fresh/frozen seafood & meat selection at Costco, better & more prepared foods. Better coffee selection. Better laptops & other electronics. Better supplement selection. And so on. But BJ's has a better fresh produce & snack/candy selection, and better/more outdoors equipment like lawn chairs, gardening equipment, fertilizers, etc. BJ's has a real meat and cheese deli while Costco does not.
BJ's sort of feels like the big box of supermarkets while Costco has more of a Home Depot vibe to it. If I had to choose I'd always go with Costco but with such promos it's always nice to have a BJ's membership as well. The double $5 Starbuck coupons are almost worth it by themselves, coming out to $7-$8 for a 2.5lb of beans or ground. But you really have to visit both to decide which is for you.
Offer is contingent upon your enrolling in BJ's Easy Renewal®, and you authorize BJ's to charge the debit/credit card first used at BJ's after accepting this offer, an annual recurring charge in the amount of the then-current membership fee for all active memberships on your account, plus tax where applicable, on the first day of the month your membership expires.
Do they force you to enroll in auto renewal or else they will not apply the promo???
