That said, good price on one the best price/performance MacBooks ever.
When's the expected month?
It's looking like fall or winter of 22. Was supposed to be out by April
This has 8gb memory and 256gb of storage. How much storage someone needs depends on they are storing. I have this same laptop and keep all my very large files on a Synology NAS or external hard drives and it's working out great.

This tablet has 1 TB of storage, and if you don't want to type on-screen, there are many inexpensive keyboard options available:

But, I think before you buy anything, you need to list (write it down so you see it in black and white) what you actually need. Include things like screen size and actually measurements of how big your files will be. Will you even have files, or are you storing everything on the Internet?
Etc., etc.
Don't put the cart before the horse. Ask not, "is this a good laptop?"... ask, "what am I going to do with it? ... what void is it meant to fill?"
If portability and lots of storage are paramount for you, those are mutually exclusive with this laptop especially, but with Macbook Airs in general. If you don't care about portability (read: being away from an electric outlet or moving it all the time), but lots of storage is important to you, why are you even looking at laptops at all?
If it's a decent jump in capability I wouldn't expect either $999 to hold or large discounts from there. Apple is getting cheaper recently despite 6-7% inflation, that won't last probably.
So if you want an M2 in 9 months at >$1000, wait, if not $850 now for M1.
I wouldn't be surprised if they keep selling these, maybe at $950 or $900 officially, while new ones are more expensive.
