The P9 P65Q9-J01 looks like a LOT more TV for $899.99.

120hz Refresh Rate (Dynamic Motion Rate 240)
1200 nits
210 local dimming zones
https://www.vizio.com/en/tv/p-series/P65Q9-J01

Compared to this M7 with 32 dimming zones at 60hz and 700 nits, the latter is likely/partially why people complain about the HDR being dark. The 120hz works better with 24 fps which a bit of movies tend to be in (120/24=5 which doesn't make for partial frames like 60/24 does).

My experiences: My 2019 M8 (M658-G1) has 90 dimming zones, 60hz, and is 600 nits and could definetly be a lot brighter, movies with lots of dark scenes I often choose to watch in SDR mode. While the M7 is 17% brighter, I think having a third less zones might be a wash. I think in 2019 when I was looking at the P9, it was more like $1100 or $1200 and so then I was looking at the 75" for $1600-ish. I decided to go with the M8 for $600 and wait a few years for the tech to get cheaper for the bigger models.

If all you have is $600, then this isn't an option, but if you're comparing between the two and have the $900, it's got a lot of benefits. If I could pay $300 to upgrade mine, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Here is rting's review

Says this VA panel has good contrast and freesync but poor local dimming.

Costco says this has hdmi 2.1 and 60 Hz refresh.

It has good contrast, but this tv is basically for dark rooms only. As the brightness peaks at 300 making this set useless
This TV has a HDR peak brightness of 700.

My original M658-G1 had random brown spots from leds going bad, then the replacement also had the same issue a few months later, and now my warranty is out. Last time I buy Vizio with out the extended warranty, just my 2 cents.

I have Vizio M65Q7 model (not exactly this one) and I like it so far. It got beautiful colors, those who are worried about brightness, I have a pretty bright living room but I prefer to keep my picture setting at Calibrated Dark mode (living room Windows are not directly opposite to TV) and I feel it fine. Other modes gets pretty bright for my eyes.
Unless you have direct light coming on TV or your room is really pretty bright, this TV should have good brightness. Having eARC, HDMI 2.1 is big plus.

Biggest thing that sucks is slow to loadup smartcast screen on powerup which is common issue in almost all VIZIO TVs. Also we can not remove apps from VIZIO smartcast to improve slow power up response.

Overall if you are on a budget, this TV is worth a shot, you will not be disappointed with the picture quality for the price you are paying!

Augh, this is a good price on their upgraded panel, im almost buying another one. I just put the 70" version in my basement for $200 more, feels like a lot to spend for 5 inches lol. Its got great color and brightness though, no regrets. But if i didnt get that deal, i would definitely bite on this right away. The UI can be annoying but really the TV spends all its time watching, the only direct interaction it gets is the kids and their dang youtube minecraft videos and the UI is plenty usable for them.

Lol you have one too? How bad is your ks8000. Mine isn't doing that much better either

Looking for a best bang for the buck upgrade from a KS8000 too. I still think especially in bright scenes the image on it is wonderful and def was a great buy - but in dark scenes it has always struggled a bit - particularly bc the spotlighting is absolutely terrible - especially with subs on the screen. Sounds like this one though is likely to suffer from something similar due to limited dimming zones (?). My dad watched something on my TV a few weeks ago though and thought I had an oled bc of how the KS goes pitch black when it switches off those parts of the screen. Had to chuckle.

Kinda crazy how well this TV has held up though especially given the deal a lot of us probably got at the time with EPP etc. Shows that spending a tad more for a TV in the long run is probably worth it if you're critical about the picture.

Now does the 65" MQ-7 compare to the 55" model? 55 inch must be sold out online. Only the 65" is available online. The local Costco didn't have either one. I had a M-series several years about, and it died in about 4 years. I'm curious to see how this model stacks up against the TCL S546 and the Hisense U6G.

How is the Hisense U6G (not R6G) compared to this Vizio?
Both are $599 currently.

EDIT - Not to worry, checked rtings.com and the Hisense U6G (U6G and NOT the Costco U6GR variant which is a bit worse) seems to beat the Vizio slightly in every rating category.
Both the $600 U6G and $600 U6GR are better than this $600 Vizio M7 Series Quantum 2021 in every category. Therefore, Vizio has to lower the price to make their M7 even worth considering.

Viewing angle is not very good, upto certain angle it works fine but picture quality suddenly drops after that. I have open kitchen connects to living room and we sometimes watch from kitchen and that looks fine to us. Unless you are planning to watch it really sideways then it will not work, but think about how frequently you would be in situation when you have to watch TV from side!
I have a big sectional in front of TV and from either end of sectional I do not feel any difference (actually very minor) as compare to sitting directly in front of TV.

The P Series Quantum is not the same TV it once was.

I have one of the 2018 65" P Series Quantum TV and the biggest benefit is it can get BRIGHT

2000 nits

I have it mounted opposite from 3 windows in my living room with auto-brightness turned on (in a calibrated dark mode) and the sun through the windows cannot outshine the TV.

The biggest complaint with the 2018 PQ series TVs is Vizio is not mindful of software bloat. My TV is sluggish as a doornail with all the crap they've added.

You have to assume the same will happen with current TVs.

The deal I got at the time was $1400 with a $400 DELL gift card, which I used on a 50" V-series 4K Vizio TV for the basement for $450 that came with a $200 gift card. I then used the $200 gift card on a 40" V-series 4K Vizio for our bedroom for $250 that came with a $50 gift card (the $50 I used on a Nintendo Switch game). The V-series were 2019 models with a new CPU and do not have the software bloat issues (yet)
still rocking with non quantum P65 , bough it 4 years ago for $700. some complaining about bad flashing screen, but mine is ok no issue,

here is the mega thread, I read hundreds of pages before pulled the trigger haha -> https://www.avsforum.com/threads/...e.2378658/

yeah software is bloatware, I am using nvidia shield pro to overcome the simple solution, the good thing is P65 C1 support HDR and DV.

upscaling is pretty bad, but nvidia shield pro do the work for (ai)upscaling

I had same exact thing happened to my Vizio 65", Just after 12 months big brown spots appeared & now there are more of them,

This Model definitely has this issue, TV looks good but it's a waste of money since seems All Vizio 65" M series are defective or poor quality.. I won't be buying Vizio anymore
