Sonos was first to pioneer the concept of multi room audio and grouping a set of speakers wirelessly. Not only that, but they actually implemented this in their devices (Play:1, Play:3, Play:5, etc.) so they're not just a patent troll, buying up patents to sue others.

Whether you agree that this patent should have been granted is frankly irrelevant. It was granted and Sonos has every right to defend it. If Apple can patent "rounded corners" on smartphones, Sonos can surely patent this. Now Google can either suck it up and find a way to license this from Sonos or remove the feature as it has done so far.

Quite frankly, I'm glad Google lost. Their goal was to undercut Sonos and drive them out of business and I'm glad the little guy won. I like Sonos products and enjoy how they work together seamlessly. Google meanwhile abandons technology on a whim if it doesn't pan out almost immediately (see Nest security system, Glass, Google+, etc.).

What? The only change is that you can't change the volume of a group collectively. Instead you have to manage the volume per device. Groups otherwise function the same way.

Tough to blame a company for protecting themselves against a titan like Google, agree?

Can this be used for media/movies or it is just a smart speaker with a screen?

Didn't google remove some functionality after loosing a lawsuit against Sonos? You'd have to confirm but I believe you can't change volume for speakers through the app and they also lost some ability to pair speakers together for a multi-room setup.

Leaves me a bit hesitant to buy-in at the moment. I suppose if you're are using it as a stand alone speaker it doesn't effect you.

The Google / Sonos lawsuit ruined speaker groupings. It's all buggy and horrible now. If you plan to use in a group do yourself a favor and skip it. I have like 12 speakers in my house that are now impossible to use in any groups. Never buying google products again

Shouldn't you boycott Sonos rather than Google?

I've wanted one of these for the longest time but they never really get a deep discount. This is now a year 3 product and I'd be scared to buy it now but a refresh comes out this year.

I want it though.

If you would have told me when I was a kid that something like this would exist now. I'm not sure I would have believed you. It reads like something out of one of those future prediction books...

Hi! Would it be good one for grandparents to do video call who are not technically savy and prefers larger screen than phone?

Thank you

Do you have speaker groups or are you just reiterating Googles response? Come over, use my google groupings and then try to tell me that. Can't control any volume with my voice, even individually, Certain speakers become buggy and need to be rebooted, I ask it to play on a certain group and it gives me error messages, and trying to play things via YouTube music and google home is a joke - e.g, you have to align volume of all 12 speakers with individual sliders, etc. This morning I asked google to play a song on "whole house" and it asked me if I wanted to play that on "whole house", "whole house" or "whole house" - and guess what, after I answered it gave me a BS "can't do that right now" response. They did not provide adequate solutions. And yes I blame the Google giant over Sonos. Pay them already.

I have speaker groups that I use daily but I never touch the volume or much of anything other than play/pause/skip. So I haven't noticed a difference.

Maybe you should delete all your groups and create them again? Maybe yours just got messed up. Also try managing from another family member's phone if possible.

Absolutely! You may have to set them up with a google account, if they don't have one already. Also great for setting reminders, timers, alarms.
Works as a great picture frame syncing with google photos.
If you ask to play the news, depending on the sources you set, it cycles through them (some with video and some with audio).
