This is with bestbuy, so no bill credit involved, it's instant trade in value that deducts from the sale price, and tax is on the deducted selling price too. Don't mislead others.

ATT is $100 cheaper further. $500 for mini and $600 for regular. But trade in values are horrible.

T-Mo is still the best in value overall.

Yes - they dont check faceid. just reset your phone and on the starup page click (i) to show them the IMEI when you trade in your phone. They dont spend time setting up the phone to check on the features.
I was trying to make a quote with a trde-in device, and bb only mentions about does the phone turn on and is there any damage on screen? Thank you for your reply.

For Bestbuy trade-in.
I had old iphone SE (1st) which is locked by other carrier. But I used r-sim to unlock before.
Not only old phone is slow now and cannot be update OS.

Can I trade-in that locked phone for my t-mobile account to get a new phone w/o changing my t-mobile ONE (2 lines $100 all-in plan)?

when I check trade-in, it only shown up carrier - verizon, att, tmobile, which one I should choose? will Bestbuy will check IMEI or Unlocked status when I turn over old SE?

BTW, the full payment NEW phone, I just use it 40 days in my t-mobile, Tmobile will unlock for me, right?

Thanks
When you trade in the SE, you'll probably want to reset it completely and that will wipe out the rsim unlock. So it will show the original carrier lock. But I don't think Best Buy cares as long as they can verify from IMEI that the phone is legit and in working order.

Don't know about the effects on your account, sorry!

I unlocked the phone three days after, no need to wait for a month.

If using a friend's account to help upgrade is there 30 upgrade fee or assistance fee at best buy? And would we need to deactivate the old sim in their phone and insert in this one?? Or we can walk out with sealed box? How soon we can get unlock done thanks!!

No upgrade fee online or at the store. I used my old SIM no problem. I walked out with the new SIM taped to the unopened box last week. They didn't even mention activating the phone in store. Unlocked in three days, you can try two.

Try contacting T-Mobile's t-force through twitter. I've had luck there unlocking serval phones once paid off even though still receiving bill credits.
Yes, I tried couple times through T-force and no go. As, ouloat suggests below, I think I need to open the iphone and insert SIM at a minimum although I was successful unlocking a iphone 11 pro max thru T-force prior to this without opening or inserting SIM.

Quote from ouloat :
1) Pay off the iphone 12 minis and Tmobile will unlock. You may have to open the phones and plug in the SIM for Tmobile to recognize the device for unlocking (it depends on the agent). Sell once unlocked. Keep receiving your remaining bill credits for iphone 12 minis.

2) Trade-in to best buy for iphone 13 minis. Use either tmobile or AT&T methods to unlock the phone. Sell once unlocked. Keep receiving your remaining bill credits for iphone 12 minis.

3) Wait for iphone 14 or iphone 15. Your 12 minis should have plenty of value to trade up.

Keep in mind when you sell you are not going to get list price even if you have a year of applecare. You will have to discount around $100 off list to get buyers.
Great suggestions. Will probably end up giving one of the 12 minis to the kid who's been buggin me for a new phone and hold on the other if I can sell it though 12 is losing its resale value...

Thanks for replying what I meant was if my friend gives me his line to use for this, will his other phone sim needs to be there at the time of upgrade in store or not needed? And did you have to activate on account etc before unlocking or you just DM or tweeted tforce?

I don't recall needing my old SIM at the store trading in. I actually opened the box and inserted SIM after I got home. I activated the phone before unlocking it with Facebook DM.

Is this deal for one day only? I cancelled a line about a week ago, thinking of open a new line, but the sim card shipment may take two days to arrive (we don't have a t-mobile store nearby) LMAO.

Thanks for posting this. Will be upgrading my 12 mini, $79 out the door with taxes. Much easier than dealing with T-mobile credits for 30 months.

Yes! Just got off the phone with them and received the $100 plus tax refund. Took a bit of time and you need to specify you paid the one time only price and not installments but it worked.
Thanks! Today is the last day that my order is returnable. The first rep refused to do a pm (saying mine is a trade-in offer...), but the second one was friendly enough to have the pm approved. Feel very luckyApplause

For anyone getting the "We're sorry, there was an issue processing your request. Please try again later." error, I was able to determine for my account (Magento consumer plan) that because I had an Insider Hookup discount, their system disqualified me from purchasing via this offer with Best Buy.

To get around this, I used the phone number and account info for a good friend to complete the transaction for an upgrade. This did not affect his account in any way since I paid in full, nor did it prevent him from taking advantage of this offer himself using the same phone number. I picked up the new phone and turned in the trade-in, and told the person at BB that I did not want to activate the phone at that time. Came home, popped my sim card in, and the phone worked on my account with no issues.

So if you can't get past the error above, see if you have a friend on T-mobile that will let you use their info to get through the account validation step in the purchase flow.
