This is with bestbuy, so no bill credit involved, it's instant trade in value that deducts from the sale price, and tax is on the deducted selling price too. Don't mislead others.

ATT is $100 cheaper further. $500 for mini and $600 for regular. But trade in values are horrible.

T-Mo is still the best in value overall.

I would be new to T-Mobile. As I understand the $20/mo Unlimited Talk & Text Plan, sign up is only available at a T-Mobile retail store.

What would be the process if I want to take advantage of the Best Buy deal for a 13 mini with an XR trade-in if I want to unlock the mini, use it on my current Verizon plan/Verizon # and cancel the $20 T-Mob plan?

Thank you in advance.
Pay the full price minus the XR trade in value and then use the ATT trick to unlock the 13 mini and then use on whichever carrier u want and then you can cancel this Tmobile plan anytime you want.

Ways to unlock iphone bought from this deal:
1. ATT sim card trick (unlocks instantly)
2. Tmobile unlock (request in twitter etc and get unlocked within 24-72hrs)
3. If you are currently using verizon then put the verizon sim directly and start using it.

Is att method using a valid active postpaid sim still bad idea? If not why? The issue with using an inactive sim is it will never register properly on att system. Atleast using a postpaid sim when you calp customer care they can see your imei, using inactive sim with no service how do you expect support from ATT to unlock? Just saying atleast if I have postpaid service with att I can request them to update imei and or unlock ? They do sometimes manually submit ticket to unlock, but without service how you can get that support ? Just my thoughts..
From reading user experiences in these deals from Best Buy, I did read someone trying an active SIM card and it still didn't work

Hi everyone. *Sorry this is so long*

First of all, I have only been using a borrowed iPhone 8 plus for about 3 weeks, so I'm still pretty iPhone/Apple ignorant.
I have read through nearly all of this thread, as well as the one from 3 months ago, but I still need some clarification, and then a little advise please. I don't know why I'm struggling to understand, but I feel dumb. So if you're willing to help, maybe you should explain it to me like I'm 5 - to borrow from Reddit 🙂

I currently have 2 lines of service with AT&T. I am hoping to move both lines to Visible, at some point. I have checked the unlocking policy posted on the AT&T website, and it says, both phones meet all criteria to be unlocked immediately.
I have 2 iPhone 12's (my son got one Christmas and I bought one earlier today) to trade in.
I want an iPhone 13 and an iPhone 13 mini.
I would like to trade them in under the T-Mobile promotion because it's a better deal.
If I can use the TMobile promotion, would the overage on the mini be applied to the 13, or should I just order a 256 mini and pay the $100 for both devices?
Does an account actually have to exist with TMobile? If so, can I set up an account online or call or do I need to go to into a store? Before I order from BB or before I pick them up? Can I set up the account online or by calling and then go into a store and have r plan changed to the $20 plan or will I be stuck with the more expensive plan? Will I have to wait for them to send me SIM cards? Can I get them from Best Buy or a brick and mortar store? Do they offer eSIMs?

***How do I stop BB from putting the TMobile SIM in them?***

There is no TMobile coverage anywhere near where I live, so if they have to stay on TMobile, how will I ever reach 40 days of service? If all goes well, once I get them home and set up on the AT&T account, how do I close the TMobile account? I saw where someone said to port out to make sure the account is closed. Can you open then close an account in the same day, or open one day and close the next? Will TMobile prorate my bill? Are there any fees I should be prepared for? How do I port numbers if I don't have anywhere for them to go?

Secondly, I bought 2 Apple Watches from BB last month and TODAY is the LAST day to return them. I know that my failure to plan does not constite an emergency for y'all, but I am in a time crunch and I haven't been able to figure this out on my own 😒.
I called BB customer service earlier and she said they I could purchase TotalTech, return and repurchase the watches and both watches and both phones would be covered with AppleCare for 24 months. She said as long as TotalTech is valid at time of purchase, it doesn't matter if I cancel it or don't renew, it will not affect the AppleCare coverage. The coverage through TotalTech does not include loss and theft. the obvious lack of coverage?
Do back up both current phones to the iCloud, reset them to trade them and use the iCloud backup to put everything on the new phones? That just sounds too easy to me 🤷.

Lastly, any opinions on colors? Is one easier to sell than another? Can I get more for a specific color if I decide to sell one or both?

If you're still with me, thank you for reading my post and thank you in advance if you have any answers or opinions to share. You guys are the BEST!

Look here

https://www.t-mobile.com/support/.../sim-cards

Select Install or replace a SIM card
Select I upgraded or replaced a device
Click on Activate the sim card and it will take you to "Change or activate a SIM card / esim"

I believe what you did is correct too. Perhaps the system is under maintenance. T-Mobile does a lot of that
Online sim change was disabled by T-Mobile weeks ago. You need to contact T-Mobile customer service to change sim now…

I called the T-Mobile customer service once I reached home and told them to change to the $20 plan, the rep did it while I was on the call.'

I keep hearing different answers. How can I get this unlocked then? I use T-Mobile services, but I like an easy option to get it unlocked as needed.
You hear different answers because there are different approaches to unlock. For an established TMo customer it is a no-brainer to pop in your existing SIM and contact TMo via Facebook or Twitter saying you bought at Best Buy "paid in full" and you need different carriers on each SIM due to your employer. The wait is variable - could be seven hours or seven days - they farm the unlock work out to their third party.

This is third or maybe fourth Best Buy "hot" deal thread since September 2021. They put the iPhone 13 and Mini at $100 off list price while also boosting trade-in values by a couple of hundred bucks for TMo customers.

I have unlocked around 8 at least through T-Force. I believe only once I was told to wait 40 days. Rest of the times it was unlocked either in 5 minutes or in 3 days. For the latter, they had to escalate it to different department since Tmobile was not registering the phones correctly, though all phones were activated the same way.
I guess purchasing through Bestbuy helps because they had to submit the request to a third party for that.
I believe they limit you to 5 unlocks in a 12 month period per line. Or so I was told ... and that they can't override that.

Does inserting a foreign SIM work to unlock it? For example, Korean cell companies don't lock phones. So if I put in a korean SIM first, will the phone just be unlocked?
Someone else tried a foreign sim, it did not work.

I was told NO, the system would flag/reject when BB enters the IMEI, and it doesn't match what they expect.

will be headed to best buy to pick up IP13 and IP13 mini, im just backing up wife IPSE2 and daughter's IP11. Taking forever to download pics from IPSE2, some 20gb of pics.
Did itune backup but not sure how that works (im on android).

would prefer to just transfer data from old IP to new one @ store but not sure how long that takes.

I may bring phone as is to store and see if they can just transfer and then wipe phone clean.

I read in post to bring it it completely reset and erased though.

anyone bring in phone and transfer data onsite to new phone and then erase?
You may get charged $40 if they do the transferring for you.

Also, Best Buy will more than likely have slow wifi and you could be in there for a long time.

It's up to you. iOS has a feature that they give you extra iCloud storage space if you are buying a new device. You have about 21 days. So you can back everything up to iCloud, and then log in on your new device and restore it from that backup.

To be safe, I would do that as well as backing up to iCloud.

Hi, will the below procedure work (or) has anyone tried this ?

1. Trade in XR to get Iphone 13 by creating a new TMO account (65/mo plan)
2. And not insert the TMO sim, instead insert Cricket Sim
3. Call TMO to cancel the service, get the refund ?
4. Unlock Iphone 13 on Cricket/ATT later ?

Ps: Im currently under Cricket Group plan.
You can unlock from Cricket after 6 months of active service, so if you plan to stay it will work. I've done it a few times.
Quote from kyden99 :
It's not going to unlock on an nvmo. Plus you're gambling on the best buy employee handing you the phone without opening the box.
It will unlock just like a phone you would get from Cricket.
