This is with bestbuy, so no bill credit involved, it's instant trade in value that deducts from the sale price, and tax is on the deducted selling price too. Don't mislead others.

ATT is $100 cheaper further. $500 for mini and $600 for regular. But trade in values are horrible.

T-Mo is still the best in value overall.

What are your potential solutions? You mind just sharing them here?
There are loads of potential solutions posted on AT&T forums, reddit, xda, etc. Have to sift through them.

2 reoccurring themes:
1) Unlock portal is wonky and doesn't recognize AT&T IMEIs every once in a while - solution is to try later, different browsers, etc.
2) Unlock portal doesn't have all of the AT&T IMEIs - You have to call for an unlock
This is a thread from 2 years ago about a Best Buy iPhone 11 locked to AT&T.

A quick question (didn't get a chance to look 80 pages)

I am a existing T-mobile customer with Iphone 11
Are there any charges like activation and other charges by best buy ?
Am i paying just $199 + tax (trade in my iphone 11 and trade in value of $500).. right ?
And i can use my old sim with the new phone... right ?

Thanks
No activation charges but you need to pay taxes depending on your state. Old sim can be used in new iPhone

When did that happen? In my experience I have yet to see a single iPhone unlocked in its own from T-Mobile. On top of need to call/contact them they also check for it to be fully paid off before they will agree to it.
Every phone I've bought from Costco(iPhone and Samsung)has been unlocked withoutme requesting. Don't know how or why. 🤷🏽

How do you get Best Buy to not put the SIM card in?

Someone mentioned that they had bought the phone for someone else and was picking up the phone. They activated the SIM card by inserting it into the new phone, the person that the phone is going to had their current phone disabled (current SIM card was disabled while out and about somewhere). So you could use that as a reason if you're going to pick up the phone for someone (or pretend you are not the phone owner and say you dont' want them disabling their old/current phone out of emergency reasons)

I used my friend's T-Mobile account to purchase this iPhone 13. And then I used his old SIM to activate. Now the phone is locked to T-Mobile . It may not be possible to keep his SIM in this iPhone for 40 days. So I am thinking, if it is possible for me to get a T-Mobile prepaid SIM for $15/month (plus $10 SIM kit fee) and keep this prepaid SIM in it for 40 days, will this satisfy the unlock requirement?

I figured one could, just wasn't sure about the whole TMobile activating the line etc and whether that would cause complications.

No other charges. You can put your old sim if the Best Buy rep doesn't activate the new chip.

No. Prepaid requires a whole year. You're probably better off just using an rsim if you can't keep a postpaid account on it.

I don't think you need a prepaid SIM. Once you activated the new phone with your friend's postpaid account you're good to go. Just wait 40 days for it to unlock automatically.

I'm an exsting tmobile user. If I grab one ip13, then activate using my wife's cricket sim card. will the phone be unlocked, or locked by Cricket?

if locked by Cricket, how to unlock it?

Thanks
Don't do that. The new phone will be registered to T-mobile by Best Buy. Other carriers will not recognize this phone and won't unlock it for you. They will ask to contact T-mobile.

I activated the new iPhone 13 using my old T-Mo SIM from the line that I upgraded. The activation went through fine and I am able to make calls. When I login to my T-Mo account, I see the new iPhone 13 with the IMEI number. However, when I call the T-Mo CSR, they say they do not see the new iPhone 13 on my account. They still see the old phone IMEI. Do you know why?

Do you think I should have used the new SIM taped to the box to activate the phone?
That's true, your account refreshes immediately when you put old sim into new phone.
Their backend system needs 48-72hrs to fully refresh and update your new phone on your line. I once called and talked over this, it seems website account and their backend system use different database, you can ask the rep to run diagnose on your account and then they will see the new phone IMEI showing up. If they don't run, then have to wait for 48-72hrs to trigger system refresh.
