I really don't know the difference. So this is meant for someone who uses it daily?
Without the blade guard the wahls does give a close enough cut akin to shaving
I've heard that rotary shavers are better with long hair than foil shavers, but I've never used a rotary shaver myself. I only shave about twice a week with a Panasonic foil shaver, and I don't really find it to be a problem. It takes longer to shave when your hair is longer, but it works fine in my experience.

So this Panasonic is closer to putting a razor on your face everyday when compared to Wahl's?
Using a foil shaver is much different than using a trimmer or clippers on your face. A foil shaver like this will shave closer and is more gentle on your skin. But it won't work as quickly as hair could be cut with good clippers. A Panasonic ARC4 or ARC5 can give a very close shave, particularly if you're willing to wet shave. But if you're going four days between shaves, then it will take a little time to shave with it.

Never had Panasonic. How does it compare to a Norelco at that price range( mine finally crapped out after 7 years) ? Also have a braun foil shaver, but not a fan of that.
Panasonic has more in common with Braun, since they are both foil shavers. Having said that, my only experience with Braun was with a cheap Series 3, and I didn't like it. I haven't used the more expensive Braun models, but they have a good reputation. I haven't used a rotary shaver, so I only know them by reputation. Good foil shaver may be more gentle on your skin and give a closer shave than a rotary. These Panasonic models are also very easy to clean. Downsides are that they are louder and may have more trouble with longer hair than a rotary model. I used an ARC4 for many years and then switched to an ARC5. Those are extremely similar, but I have much less experience with Braun and none at all with Philips Norelco rotary.

This is the only electric razor that can get as close to a straight blade on my thick facial hair.

Let's try this analogy: Panasonic is a Lexus and Norelco is a Lincoln. Both start up, drive and operate similarly, but you'll know the difference when you drive a Lexus.

Man I'm surprised the battery isn't dead yet! I loved my first Arc3, but the battery failed at around 6-7 years. If you're looking for a replacement, definitely worth replacing it.

If those that are interested....replacing the battery cost more than the shaver is worth, especially if you have to replace the blades. Batteries tend to range from $15-20 and you have to disassemble the entire unit. They started to solder the battery in later models, but I think the early ones can still be replaced from what research I did with my old shavers.

Eventually I gave into consumerism and bought a replacement despite trying to be ecological and not make more waste...it didn't make sense to fix something when it was cheaper to buy a whole new device
my Arc 3 is 13 years and still lasts 5 shaves. Got new blades a year back. Will upgrade to Arc4 now. thanks

This was particularly helpful for me. I think the takeaway for me is that, yes the Arc4 is less agile than the Arc3 but, if I'm not keeping a beard (so just looking for a clean shave) I might actually enjoy a faster shave(?).

Good luck!
Jon
If you don't have to maintain a beard, the Arc4 would make shaving faster, at least that's what I've noticed. It takes less passes to get a close shave compared to the Arc3. Either way, both shavers are good in their own ways.

I tired the Arc5 before but returned it because the head was far too bulky to use while maintaining a beard. If I was shaving my entire face everyday, that would actually be the one to get. Either way, hope that helps your decision!

I'm surprised people are saying they replace their blades after x months. I'm still using this Norelco [amazon.com] with the original blades and it works great. Original batteries too. It came out in 2005. I think I got mine a year or two later.

Also I tried a foil shaver once but it would scrape my skin.

I have the Arc3 and love it, I wasn't gonna upgrade but rather than buy new blades I'll just get this. Arc3 is now 7/8 years old so I got great use out of it!

Interesting, did a search on Amazon, did not see any Arc3 with cleaning station. I got one in 2014, really liked the convenience and still using it.

I was looking at this one three months ago when trying out electric razors for the first time, but the price of most of them put me off. I ended up going with the basic, Remington that's usually recommended by Wirecutter and the sorts.

Judging by the comments, sounds like the replacement blades on these things poop out after a year, or so, and are close to the cost of a new razor.

I think the Arc5 is a little bigger. But you would say their performance is more or less equivalent?
I posted this a while back - tried a new arc4 and new arc5 for shaving my head. Both took the same amount of time, 7 minutes. Same closeness of shave, no noticeable difference between the two.

Seems most in this thread prefer Panasonic... I haven't tried one, but I did compare the latest Braun foil vs. Norelco rotary both from Costco last time I was shopping around. I liked the Norelco rotary style a lot more, so that's the one I still use to this day. But, that's just a personal preference, as opposed to objectively saying one style is better than the other.
