I would recommend the electronic shooting ones in that situation so that you can hear better than with these on. That being said- if someone actually broke into my house- my ears probably wouldn't be my primary concern until after the intruder was neutralized. These are an "extra" pair for me and for others that might be with me.
27 is not good enough for shooting in indoor ranges, btw. I think this is only for outside and when you are the only one shooting - hunting, that is, you don't have anyone right next to you shooting as well. I mean, you can do it but the damage will be done. Tinnitus made many people end their lives. Deafness is preferable but you don't get to choose.
Usually you'd want to go with 34 nrr for better protection. Plus, you can also put extra tiny ones in your ear canal (this is in addition to the 34 nrr muffs), if you really do shoot often and want to save the hearing.
Yes. Hearing loss and tinnitus made me numb to what people were saying to me.
Certain vocal frequencies are harder to pick up than others.
Used to put more effort into asking the person to speak up, repeat or say it slowly. Then there's days where you just smile and act like you heard them.

Thanks for sharing. I am considering switching from passive 36 nrr Walkers to Peltor 500 (nrr 26). Should I consider keeping wearing my Walkers?
My Walkers (on site it is stated 30 nrr but on box it is 35 nrr): https://www.walkersgameear.com/ex...ding-muff/

Then there's just days you altogether ignore it.
