This sale comes around for every major holiday. 50% off is as low as it gets so if you want it you should get it now, and if you are still on the fence, no need to rush.

I don't care using my phone to log my activity as the last thing you want in the backcountry is the map/phone you reply on (which you shouldn't) go dead. If you want to go frugal, you can download US Topo maps or terrain maps for free from USGS, and you can load them to whatever GPS app you prefer, even Google Earth. Most trails are marked on these maps.
https://ngmdb.usgs.gov/topoview/viewer/

Or there are paid US topo map apps which only charges a one-time purchase fee.

Regardless, using phone to navigate on trails has its limitations, so please use with caution. When in doubt, don't. Good old map skill is still the best way to navigate.

For me the main benefit was offline maps. So yeah, for me it was worth it.

Is anyone able to get this to work in the app? I'd like to get this using my play store credit, but can't get it to show up in the app.

Great deal!

To me it is., I go hiking fairly often. Looking up new places and the extras help me get more information. When you are in the back country and checking out new trails or on often visited trails it is helpful to get the maps etc especially if you are offline. It depends on the type of hiker you are though. Do you just do in city hikes or do you go out and explore where there is no cell signal. I like to have it as a backup because some trails aren't well defined.

Hi Tim, Thanks for reaching out! The promo is only valid for new Pro upgrades, and cannot be used to extend existing subscriptions. My apologies for the inconvenience! Please let me know if you have any questions or if there is anything else I can help with. Best, Andi

Aren't the normal maps cached for you?

I wholeheartedly agree! When you're out on the trail, you're going to lose your cel signal, so it'll make your life much easier (and your hike much more enjoyable) to be able to download the maps for offline use when that happens!

Yes, just ask me about trying to use low-res topo screenshots for hiking instead of just paying for the full version Smilie

I had the app downloaded but never paid for PRO. I just opened it, and the deal immediately came up on the home screen. Now it's set for renewal in 2023 via iTunes, but of course will cancel before then.

I got pro to use offline maps and to know where i am on the trail(s) as often there are other trails that come up, at least here in Angeles National Forest, so i dont feel like getting lost. Since hikes i go are day hikes, i am not worried about running out of phone battery. But i assume, for those that go on longer trips, far out, they will want to use a dedicated GPS unit with SOS and such. It is too bad this promo is just once, i dont want to create new account as i like seeing my history and progress, etc.

For this in Southern California, i like using this guide to find trails and read about it

I was able to grab a lifetime pro subscription from when they offered it in the past. The app is great in general and there is an active community of trail-users (hiking, MTB, OHV) sharing reviews and the latest trail condition (closed, muddy etc.) which is invaluable to me. The recording function is decent to gather and share your speed and route info but wasn't always reliable for me on my phone in the past. Could be fixed now but I haven't used it recently. The GPS and offline maps are good and can be quite helpful especially if the trails are not clearly marked. If you are an avid outdoor enthusiast this app is definitely something you want to have in your pocket and if it's useful to you $1.25/month is not a bad price to help support the app and the community.
