Marriott status is not that valuable. My last stay as a Titanium, I had to fight to get a room with a nice view. Didn't even bother asking for a suite, even though the program states I should be eligible for one. Marriott has repeatedly stated they want to take care of hotels, not members.

I was the last one in my company to stick it out with Marriott, but everyone has switched to Hilton because their rewards program is much better.

Yes, it is a promotion for everyone through 5/4/22. The catch is, it doesn't apply to existing reservations - so you'd need to rebook (at today's rates) any existing reservation to benefit from this.

basically each paid stay gets 1000 extra points and 2 stay credits per night instead of one.

no bonus for any points/cash and points reservations.

Dang it...have existing trip to Maui for a week in Feb. Rebooking increases the total price by $500. Not sure if that's worth it.
Definitely not. As others discussed, you should get the credit if it's "STAY" after registering but honestly I remember most of the promos being "BOOK" after registering so I'm not confident. That being said, $500 is definitely not worth it anyway. For that price find a cheap hotel and do a staycation or just spend the $500 on whatever benefits increased status would give you (breakfasts, etc.).

There are a ton of ppl traveling...I'm boosted, my family is boosted, we've done the best we can to stay safe and at the same time we really need to bring our lives back to normal.
Quote from stealthytolkien :
I can't wait to either (fully boosted but with our first baby on the way, trying to stay hunkered down for a few more months), but I can't imagine that the regular work traveling is back to 100% even today. These deals may just be indicative of that. Thoughts?
We did some before Omnicron hit (triple vax) but have slowed it back down - so have my friends in consulting (the power travelers). That's why this promo is actually super valuable for me and my spouse: we're both a year and a a hundred or so nights away from lifetime platinum but since neither of us travels much for work getting the 9th/10th year of platinum is challenging. With a vacation or two, our Amex card elite nights, and this promo, we should make it. I think we're literally going to book a cheap hotel outside of the city (we live in Texas so we're talking $80) - go check in and drive home lol. Between the 1000 points, double night, 500 point check in bonus, and normal 15 points per dollar for platinum (17.5 for me as Titanium) and 6 point per dollar for the Amex gives:

Platinum: 3,180 points for $80 stay
Titanium: 3,380 points for $80 stay

Depending on how you value them, that's $20-$30 in points so I'm paying $30 for one elite night credit, or equivalent to $1500 for platinum elite. While I definitely wouldn't pay that straight up for one year of platinum, we already have some nights from our Bonvoy Amex cards and this is going to push us to lifetime platinum, which I REALLY want to do before they change the requirements due to perennial devaluation/"optimizing". We're not traveling as much and have the platinum benefits (in particular, free breakfast) locked in for life is huge for us.

Is there a rough dollar translated value of 1000 points in their program? I had an existing reservation and it'd be $10 more to cancel rebook for the promo points.
Nerdwallet says .7 cents, TPG says .8 cents - I find those to be about right. I came from SPG and while they definitely watered down the program a ton, adding in all the random little Marriotts has been good for us. For example, when I stay at a Springhill/Fairfield/Townplace/Residence Inn in the suburbs when visiting family in Texas I feel like I get around 1 cent per point (a $100 night after taxes is typically 10k points).

For me, the real value is when you can stay 5 night to get that 5th night free.

I forgot the most important question: do these elite nights count towards lifetime status?

The details didn't say - I can't imagine why they WOULDN'T but the Marriott Homes and Villas count towards yearly but not lifetime status.

Why wouldn't you? Went to Vegas for first time w/ large group in August 2020. Stayed at Caesars and Venetian for dirt cheap and everything much less crowded. Did Bahamas Feb 2021 for superbowl. Got a tip that all Atlantis towers were closed for renovation except Cove, but could still book cheap Coral tower online thru Bonvoy. Booked multiple nights at coral for under $200 per night and automatically upgraded to Cove at checkin (normally $600-$800 per night). Booked private cabana for superbowl pool party for $1.5K (split between 8 people) that costs $3.5K this year. They didn't care - just happy to have customers. Did Mexico in October. Back to Bahamas next month for SB.

If you're healthy and not in high risk group, the available data has never indicated much danger and most certainly doesn't today.

I've had the opposite experience. I traveled enough in 2021 to be Globalist at Hyatt, Titanium at Marriott, and Diamond at Hilton. Hyatt is by far the best when staying at nice resorts as a globalist, but Marriott has been great as well, and Hilton just sucks consistently. I will say that the Marriott benefits when staying at business hotels isn't the greatest… I don't like how stingy they are with waters, at Hyatt I have no issues getting free waters, but for vacations such as resorts the perks are great.
I am surprised to hear this. What part of the USA/world are you traveling? Not much experience with Hyatt but for the past 7 months I've worked a new job traveling and I found the majority of the time that Hampton/Hilton's are a better value. Marriott has been far stingier about things. Typically more expensive too, without being nicer.

Wonder if paying with Marriott GC qualifies - didn't see any indications it wouldn't.

No need to actually drive there and check in. Use the mobile app to check in and save yourself a drive.

And that actually works? Every time I've ever done mobile check it it was useless - still had to go to the front desk but they did normally have my key for me.

Actually, ONE time - a Marriott Marquis had the bluetooth keys - first time ever.

Hit or miss...I read an article about someone using the mobile check in w/o going to the hotel so as to keep up their rewards status.

I agree with this based on previous experiences.

Your stay will qualify. A "stay" in Marriott terms is just that... it is the act of staying at their property. When you book your reservation is completely irrelevant for the terms of this bonus (and all Marriott bonuses).

I should make the move. Been super disappointed in their customer service as of late, lack of lounges open and their new room upgrade policies. Titanium Elite Lifetime so I guess I can move over to Hilton and come back if I not happy.

I typically read tripadvisor reviews before choosing my hotels. It seems like everytime I read Marriott hotel reviews, high elite members like yourself complain of this same thing. It use to not be that way, so this is very alarming to hear. Even late checkout is becoming harder and harder to get and certainly not for more than 1-2 hours extended max. Gold Elite use to get you lounge access, but they took that away.

The terms of this promo just show how terrible their program is. Why should it matter when you actually booked your hotel? It should only matter when you actually stay at the hotel. To make you cancel and rebook would be just silly.
Same issues with Marriott. No upgrades anymore and their customer service stinks

It's fine for people that are already traveling. It's nothing remotely worth attempting to book just to get, or even a deciding factor to choose one hotel over another. Especially Marriot who have gone farther down the dumpster. I have 500k points and titanium status, and it seems like a chore that I have to use them or ill waste them.
