Quick search shows that this drive was posted 4 times in November, the lowest of which was $104, which I believe was the lowest ever. I know that this is SD and all, but I'd say that $6 more than the best historic price is a more than a "decent" price. Thanks OP I'm in for one.

Due to their speed and efficiency, these are among the best NVMe drives on the market, especially for laptops, but it's worth noting that SK Hynix finally announced the PCI-E Gen4 successor to this, the Platinum P41, at CES this year. Not sure when it will be available but if you've been holding out for an NVMe drive for your system with a Gen4 NVMe slot (or may migrate your next drive to a Gen4\5 system later) and don't desperately need one right now, the P41 will likely be the drive to get unless SK Hynix can't pull it off a second time.

In real-world usage the performance of most drives will be basically the same, but with the P31's large efficiency lead it's pretty enticing to think we might be able to get that kind of efficiency while also getting that huge Gen4 throughput boost... you know, just in case Direct Storage ever actually makes use of it.

Do you really believe copy and pasting this exact message in every SSD thread on SD will have *any* effect on how manufacturers price their products? Who are you appealing to?

Think it was cheaper in November when I got the 2TB for $196 from Amazon, but can't remember. Guess it's a decent price.

Think it was under $100 when the 2TB was $196 but who knows if that'll come back. I'll buy another 2TB if this coupon comes to the 2TB.

If anyone is thinking about it, this is a fantastic drive. I got the 1 tb version when it was 104ish, it's very fast and best of all my laptop battery life is still very good with it. With i7-8750h, 1060 max Q, and 16 GB RAM I load into gta V in about 1 min 20 seconds compared to 4-6 minutes on my prior 1 tb 5400 rpm hdd. General daily tasks feel more responsive.

Looks like Sabrent has much better endurance (1800 vs 750 TBW for 1 TB). Performance seems to be split:

Sabrent the better value?

That Sabrent deal is amazing.

I got the Sabrent rocket 8 months ago and paid about $350 for it. $220 is an incredible price for a 2TB PCIe Gen 4.

These rocket drives do have some weirdness about them. The write speeds can come down a lot over time and you will get "only" 1000MB/s, but read will stick at 5000MB/s. This lowering of the write speed is an issue I saw on my drive that could only be reset by reformmating the drove. It doesn't happen to everyone.

Compared to a PCIe Gen 3 , I would take the rocket to get double the speeds , and you can always RMA it if it develops the problem o described above.

Obviously, your system needs to support PCIe Gen 4 to take advantage of this.

What happens if you put it in a PCIe 3.0 x4 slot? Does it just cap the rate to 3938 MB/s or are there other inefficiencies?

I bought the 500 GB version to go in my new Omen (Windows 11). Just curious...has anyone ever had a sporadic problem where a hard drive keeps losing its drive letter? Just randomly that drive disappears and I go in, find it in the drive center, give it the letter it was missing and it works fine until the letter goes missing again.

it's both way compatible. You can use old drive in new slot or put new drive in old slot. Only limitation is PCI speed

The Sabrent Rocket Gen3 2 TB for $169.99 a few days ago at newegg was probably a better deal, if you don't really need or care about Gen4. Unfortunately I missed it... Seems like this should be lower priced now.

This draws less power than the Rocket.
