Quick search shows that this drive was posted 4 times in November, the lowest of which was $104, which I believe was the lowest ever. I know that this is SD and all, but I'd say that $6 more than the best historic price is a more than a "decent" price. Thanks OP I'm in for one.

Due to their speed and efficiency, these are among the best NVMe drives on the market, especially for laptops, but it's worth noting that SK Hynix finally announced the PCI-E Gen4 successor to this, the Platinum P41, at CES this year. Not sure when it will be available but if you've been holding out for an NVMe drive for your system with a Gen4 NVMe slot (or may migrate your next drive to a Gen4\5 system later) and don't desperately need one right now, the P41 will likely be the drive to get unless SK Hynix can't pull it off a second time.

In real-world usage the performance of most drives will be basically the same, but with the P31's large efficiency lead it's pretty enticing to think we might be able to get that kind of efficiency while also getting that huge Gen4 throughput boost... you know, just in case Direct Storage ever actually makes use of it.

Do you really believe copy and pasting this exact message in every SSD thread on SD will have *any* effect on how manufacturers price their products? Who are you appealing to?

P31 is gen 4. Go and compare with Gen 4 drives.
If you put that Sabrent gen4 drive in a PCIe 3 slot will it perform better than this P31?

P31 is gen3. The link you linked is gen4. Not many people have gen4 slot yet. Also Samsung gen4 is much better.
But if gen4 is the same price, I think in a gen3 slot you're better off with the gen4 if it performs the same or better since saturating at gen3 speeds still means better random r/w?

Also it would probably thermal throttle less?

If anyone is thinking about it, this is a fantastic drive. I got the 1 tb version when it was 104ish, it's very fast and best of all my laptop battery life is still very good with it. With i7-8750h, 1060 max Q, and 16 GB RAM I load into gta V in about 1 min 20 seconds compared to 4-6 minutes on my prior 1 tb 5400 rpm hdd. General daily tasks feel more responsive.
I have a similar setup dell 15 Inspiron 7577 with 1060max Q been wanting to upgrade m.2. What is strange is it has a sata m.2 but I read these will fit too. Does anyone know if this will work?

It's up to you. It depends on your mobo. Many users have m.2 slots, PCIE slots, sata ports limitation.

I haven't read anything about it. Where did you read this?
'All three SK hynix Platinum P41 capacity models are slated for a release sometime in the first quarter of 2022.'

I am in for one - I think it is a very good ssd.

However, I am not fond of SK hynix's warranty conditions.

I only have good things to say about SKHynix. I work in local government and our tech staff are certified Dell technicians. They recently had to replace a failed HDD in one of our Dell laptops, and Dell sent us a SKHynix SSD as a replacement. Made me feel validated in my personal SKHynix SSD purchases
Couple years ago not that many people knew the SK Hynix brand, but they are huge in the OEM game.

Still waiting to replace my 1TB NVMe SSD I bought four years ago for $69. Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron stop colluding to milk the consumer at 1-2TB kkthx. We are ready to be cheated at 8-128TB.

Digitimes: Samsung new NAND flash capacity coming online in 2H21 may worsen price falls.

Everyone has been brainwashed to eat these high prices because xyz reasons. It's easier and cheaper to print ssd NAND memory than make a hard drive yet you don't see those staying stationary at 1-2TB for the past 4 years. This is what collusion looks like.
Lol why don't you start a nand manufacturing business and show us how easy and cheap you can make them.

In nand case the higher the capacity means less quality. SLC -> MLC -> TLC -> QLC. Try making a 2TB SLC. Lol.
