shows in stock and $1 at several of my local stores! I got super excited! Then I thought for a second and decided I don't really care... Walmart can throw it away or I can throw it away, either way its definitely landfill bound very soon.

Just notice store address and don't drive to it next time. Some stores are known for stock discrepancy and theft.
Also you can ask store associates to scan upc barcode from brickseek using handheld device (zebra terminal) for find actual location for a item. Brickseek displays total stock but terminal can break it down between shelves, back storeroom, receiving area and not sellable qty.

Several of each item listed at my local Walmart times two. Both stores I went to only had regular priced items in stock, none of these sale items.

Went last time and both Walmarts have tools in glass cases. Found nothing. Their inventory tracking is terrible.

For me that means all the 3 Walmarts in a 45 min radius. I never waste my time on these type of deals

The tools in the deal are usually not in the same isle as the regular tools, they are tools that were stocked for the holiday which are usually located in a big card board box in one of the main isles next to the hardware department or on end caps.
