8gb soldered ram with no slots kills it. Can't be that much savings, why do they keep crippling tech?

Slickdeals should ban posting of laptops with 8GB that cost more than $400.

I can hardly believe that a 16" laptop is non-upgradeable. Boggles the mind.

I understand 8 gb od RAM being soldered but would it kill them to include at least one empty slot.I seriously doubt it would cost that much.

Wonder if it could be un-soldered and upgraded? Think Problem is, even if it's possible, it would void the warranty.
Very nice machine otherwise, and depending on what one does with it, 8 GB could be enough.

I have owned an IdeaPad before. Keyboard was substandard not like ThinkPad. Probably worth it if you don't do a lot typing with this.

the same reason some TVs give you 2 HDMI ports and charge you $500 for the next tier up with 3.

I mean, it's really $400 machine with a better than average screen.

TD Soldered RAM & no free slots. Potential Sales loss from this thread alone is more than what they gimped on, shame on Lenovo and vendors who sell non-upgradable laptop.

Same laptop/model# as this post https://slickdeals.net/f/15442546-lenovo-ideapad-5-pro-16-2560x1600-ryzen-5-5600h-8gb-ddr4-512gb-ssd-600-free-shipping

I bought during that deal and while certainly disappointed with the RAM situation, it does good as a travel companion to watch shows and streams on. The screen is really great. Doesn't have onboard ethernet so had to buy a USB-C to avoid the crappy hotel WiFi but otherwise does all the things I wanted it to do.

Did notice the F5 and F6 keys in the middle of the top row is a bit spongy but they work fine and I hardly ever use those keys. Otherwise everything checks out nice. Hinge seems pretty solid but I'm not a person with a lot of laptop experience.

Jeez why is the Ram police going so hard on this poor laptop. Yes, it has 8gigs. Yes, 16 is better.

But overall this is a solid machine. It feels and looks premium with a nice modern build. I find the keyboard better than my M1 MacBook Air.

The screen is matte which is not common in a 2K screen so it's great outdoors. It also has 350 Nits so pretty bright. The blacks are super sharp. So much so that I only use dark mode now. For some reason I find the whites not as sharp as the blacks. So expect a good movie screen at 16inches. YouTube vids looks amazing.

I purchased this during the last deal primarily for the screen and it can't be beat. Find me another 2k 16" screen under 700 and you'll be hard pressed.

Don't let the Ram police persuade you otherwise if you're a basic user looking for a premium screen and well built machine for less than $1k.

At $600 I'm pleased.

Issue is it has iGPU but no way to get dual-channel memory….what a waste. Even a 8 + 2GB ram stick will double the memory bandwidth immediately…..

I guess because they are using it to drive sales of more expensive sku's and they sell these machines to the unsuspecting "victims" I can see it making some amount of business sense...
