I'm a programmer and had some digital credits so I gave this one a shot. Good book! Straight forward. I think programming for "kids" is a bit subjective though. Older kids, definitely. 12+ish? Maybe 10+? The author gives you the literal code so younger ones can type in the code (or copy and paste really) and change things as they want. Younger kids may not catch all the programming types etc. But this is a great book! I learned a lot, not knowing python at all. Learning about their built in game libraries was especially useful.

I got it with our kindle unlimited subscription and I must say that is not for younger kids. I was hoping my 7 year old could use it but upon a quick inspection, I know interest would already need to be built up. It's more for pre-teens and above.

Every kid is "The One". You just have to help them figure out at what. I used to program a little WAY back in the day. I even enrolled in a couple college coding classes and realized that I wasn't THAT One. For a buck, it's possible several here find out their kid is This One. Rep for the OP.

As much as I support exposing kids to coding early, I don't think a book is the best medium for the targeted age range. There's plenty of interactive online Python learning they can do that would be more likely to hold their attention.

I agree. There's lots of online content. But much of it is of poor educational quality. Care to make some recommendations?

I am a software engineer, and I am planning teach my kid(when get old enough) with application in mind. For e.g. You ask them how can you write a program to add two numbers, and so on. And then they start figuring out flows and syntax to solve it. Thats all it is. A book like this may get them bored easily.

The cover doesn't represent intended audience. It looks like for small children, but this book is definitely is NOT. May be for 12+ kids, but still the text is dry and more like step-by-step instruction then playful book to get kids interested in codding.

I don't think that's the point of these kinds of books. It's to get them to think how to program. However, I can't imagine a lot of really young kids really getting into this unless they're naturally gifted. This is probably more useful for older children, maybe like late elementary school years or older. I hope some Tiger parents don't get the wrong idea with these kinds of books.
