You need to upload copy of their SSN card and another form of ID at the end for verification.

How does this work for someone who works in finance/investments? I am a BDAP covered by a PAD policy. All trades from a dependent must be pre approved. Will they let my kid sign up and get the bonus?

I was not able to get prior bonuses bc of my status.

Are there any good accounts out there for a 2 and 5 year old?

Chase has one. This is an adult owned account with kid login features. I believe you need a normal account with chase to create this one. Am hoping other banks do this too.

Any recommendations on one that doesn't need to be used for education? I have a 16 month old and I'm trying to figure out which account to start for him. By the time he goes to college I think there's a decent chance it will be free, so I'm hesitant to put savings into a 529.

A 529 by definition is for education only, but you have a valid point. I think that even if college is eventually "free" there will be some vehicle to get the trillions of dollars tied up in 529's available to people, much like if Social Security ever goes away there will be some way to at least partially reimburse anyone who has paid into it already. 529's already have a way to withdraw tax-free money equivalent to the value of a scholarship regardless of income level...So if your kid gets a $100k scholarship then you can withdraw $100k tax-free from the 529. I think something similar would happen if college is ever made free, so there is low risk that you're totally losing any money that you put into a 529 now.

Ugh. I tried to log in to my kid's savings account from when they established an account with Capital One in the past, but am not able to get past their 2FA. Seems like they changed their policy such that only one phone number can be associated with one login. So if you want to share one number for 2FA for your and the kids' login, then it's not going to work.

This is a dealbreaker for me, so I will continue looking.

I waffled for weeks before I decided to go with the Roth over the 529 for the kids...but exactly the flexibility it provides over the 529 was a big factor as well.

That's the whole point of it, not to make you spend it.

OK, we have applied for this today for my son.
Now, we downloaded the app onto my son's phone.
It asks for ID and password to log in.

Are we suppose to use my adult ID and password?

Based on reading, seems like youth can trade in shares or fraction share based on dollar denomination. I'd assume that the adult will pay the tax for investment gains and assumes the investment losses for deduction? Scary part is that options is available for trade leverage.

Do parents have control over what their kids can do?

Chatted with agent, the youth accounts are independent...
This is s scary. Setting up teens for trading in options. Catch them young without the training and lose what little they will earn.

I Bonds can aid in that. It would lock the money for 12 months in any increment $25+. The rates are insane right now too. Alternatively, could purchase EE bonds, but at the moment the inflation adjusted interest rates for I Bonds are crazy high.
I wouldn't recommend IBonds. They used to be decent, but not any longer.

They have two percentage rates that combine to make up their total interest pay out. There's a fixed rate that never changes, plus a second rate that changes based on inflation.

The fixed rate is currently zero. Which means they only pay out the inflation rate. Which means your real return (after inflation but before taxes) is zero. Your after-tax real return is negative. No thanks. 20 years or so ago the fixed rate was 3-4%. That was decent for a very safe conservative investment. Today's zero fixed rate stinks.

Put kid money into the stock market, preferably a broad index mutual fund or ETF. They'll come out way ahead.

I'm gonna do this for our 14-yo son. I thought about getting him an account back when they were offering $100 bonus accounts for anyone but it didn't have all the youth benefits.

I've had a Fidelity account for a long time, ever since getting their 2% rebate credit card. I like Fidelity a lot and if it weren't so much hassle, would move my Vanguard money over because I greatly prefer the Fidelity website and account reporting interface.

Has anyone heard about any recent Fidelity promotions (other than youth accounts)? ty
