My daughter is 17, turns 18 in October. Since this account mentions for ages 13-17, I guess it just rolls over into a 'normal' account once the kid turns 18?

The FAQ addresses this but doesn't go into details about whether or not the transferred account then turns into one of the paid subscription model accounts they promote as an option on the sign up page.

I am thinking about opening a youth account for my 14 year old son. However, since I don't have an account with Fidelity, I have to open an account (I am interested in investment account). I looked at the fees page and it looks like there's $0 to open an account with $0 monthly fee. And there's no minimum amout to open the account. Am I correct?

I haven't opened our accounts yet. This is how I understand:

You, as a parent, first have to open Fidelity account, then you can open your kid's account that is linked to your account. You link another bank's account to your Fidelity account. Since your kid's Fidelity account is linked to your Fidelity account, you can move money through your bank account to your kid's Fidelity account.

Maybe, I am wrong? I was waiting money to be deposited from Stockpile before opening Fidelity accounts for us. And that's why I haven't opened accounts yet.

Or does the kid have to have some ways to earn income to be able to open (and report) kid's Fidelity account?

Sorry, you lost me at "Fidelity account". It's not a retirement account so your kid doesn't need any earned income. You just need to have an account to open up theirs. Money can come from anywhere.

I Bonds can aid in that. It would lock the money for 12 months in any increment $25+. The rates are insane right now too. Alternatively, could purchase EE bonds, but at the moment the inflation adjusted interest rates for I Bonds are crazy high.

And they're about to go higher. Projected 75 basis point increase in about 2 weeks.

So can I just open an investment account and "invest" then transfer the shares to my kids? Or keep it until they are ready? More freedom to do whatever instead of like 529 only for education for example.

Not sure why this info is up there:

*It's taxable with or without a 1099-INT, which is just an enforcement mechanism. If they have to file a tax return, it must be included to avoid felony tax fraud at such a young age.

$50 will never bear enough interest in a year for itself to be taxable. The person would have to have other taxable interest and in that case THAT is causing them to meet the legal threshold for reporting. For all intents and purposes rferring to interest tax this $50 itself is not something with a tax liability. However, a $50 gift... THAT could be taxable, yet it is not even mentioned... lol smh

I have a question about the Venmo/Paypal feature advertised for this type of account. It says, " Teens can link their account to mobile payment apps like Venmo and PayPal"

But then it also says:
"Use a Venmo or PayPal account may be subject to their terms and conditions, including age requirements"

So if this account is for 13-17 years old, how can they use Venmo/Paypal since both those services have a minimum age requirement of 18 years old?
