Penny prices aren't usually honored since they mean the product is being sent back or destroyed. Best they usually do is sell it for last clearance price of 75% off with supervisor approval. You got lucky and someone screwed up or didn't care.

That's correct.

I've found penny items before and tried to do self checkout with other items in the mix. The associate still stopped the sale and took the penny items.

.01 clearance is not to be sold.

Yeah you got lucky, but thanks for the heads up for people to be on the lookout.
Someone didn't know what they were doing when they put the sticker up. They were supposed to remove that item to send back or usually destroy.

Or just add more stuff to your cart, so that the final amount wouldn't be very low. Anything that can be returned later.
