You needed to invest $50 more to upgrade your floppy drive to 2.88 and get a square hole puncher to offset the sensor to implement a in-place upgrade. This in theory could scale your economy better. Even if the success rate is 70%, that will still net you around $3.5 mil of saving.

You just have to be okay with an internal drive, and Seagate...and refurbished. Whenever I get a drive, new or used, I run a full write and read test on it to stress test it. In my experience if a magnetic drive isn't dead on arrival and lasts a month then it's good for quite a while. The 2-year warranty on this Western Digital is so little time as far as the lifespan I expect anyways. I've actually had 2 ssd's (one Western Digital, one Samsung) go bad on me in the past couple months, which I thought would be far more rare than magnetic drives. Just bad luck I guess.
Refurbished? Hard pass.

FYI can also get a deal on the 14TB drives as well if you order 2 of them. 3 for some reason gives less discount as far per TB. This is what I got:

1x 14 TB = $214.99 or $15.36/TB
2x 14 TB = $419.98 or $14.99/TB
3x 14 TB = $659.97 or $15.71/TB

Not as good as the BF 14TB for $170 if you paying via ZIP deal but if you need the disks now.

I ordered it and will let you know. But two of the reviews say 7200, although they don't specify drive size. On amazon, they say 5400, but again, don't specify drive size. The model is WDBWLG0180HBK-NESN if you wanna try finding something about it. The data sheet doesn't have rpm either Frown

Not sure what you mean. Most WD Reds spin at 5400 rpm. You can check their site
