the one thing about ultra short throw is that they are ideally projected on a perfectly flat surface. Any waves in your screen or wall or sheet or whatever your projecting on will be very magnified because of the extreme angle of incident. In my opinion, ultra short throws work best with fixed projection screens, a smooth flat wall, or possibly a drop screen that is tab tensioned and not inexpensive pulldown screens or a fabric sheet or wavy sheetrock/plaster even wall texture could be trouble.
I have a 77" OLED and a 120" UST.

No one cares about the OLED after they see the projector.

This or a 77 inch OLED for my basement? I am ok with spending upto $3000 and can get zero ambient lighting in the basement and have a whole empty wall that i can use to project stuff. Please help.

I want good blacks because literally every movie and TV show has a lot of dark scenes.

If you want good blacks then nothing will beat out an OLED currently. I have an LG CX and when a scene in a movie is pitch black you can't tell if the TV is on or off. It's awesome. None of that 'grayish not really black' black.

Obviously though an OLED won't compete with the sheer size of a 120" projected image. But it depends on which youd rather have.

The Buydig spec list says something very different
2x HDMI 2.0 (HDCP 2.2, 18Gbps)
The picture of the ports on the unit also clearly show 2 HDMI 2.0 ports physically present on the device, so I'd also go with the BuyDig description!

Not sure Buydig is an approved dealer. but if they are not, best buy has this for the same price right now. Does anyone have this? I tried out a short throw LG projector last week in my home. My house is old, so the walls aren't perfectly straight. However, I've had a projector on that wall for 10 years and never had image issues. I don't know if the short throw magnifies things more than a projector hanging from the wall does, but the LG had wavy lines at the top and curved on the sides. I've never seen anything like that before, so I took it back and ordered a LG OLED. This is a good price though, so I'm curious on other's opinions.

I have a JVC nx5 projector (123 inch screen) and a LG C8, 65 inch. Personally, the jvc nx5 PQ is still pretty damn good and the size just makes it so immersive that the 65 inch feels like I can barely see anything

I thought I wanted the same but now I can't go back after having a 120" screen since it feels just like a real theater to the entire family. I got an acoustically transparent screen instead of ALR (since I can control light as you can) and now the audio comes directly from the characters and action on the screen which is another huge plus for me. I still wish I had better blacks but not that much.

Anyone know how far the unit must be placed from the wall?
see page 56 of manual [optomausa.com] for image size vs distance to screen/wall. 120" screen 13.5" from screen, 85" screen 5.8" from screen

I have the VAVA version of this - and it rocks. Pair it with a screen made for UST projectors and you will have a hard time going back to a puny TV ever again. I have a 120" X-Y screen... between the projector and screen, it was about $3,000.

I wouldn't trade this for an OLED setup. The same $$ would not get me an OLED that's anywhere near that size.

Don't buy UST unless you will get an ALR screen. Makes a huge difference.

💯 Exactly. I have a 110" on a epson 5040ub and people have the same reaction.

Thanks. Can I assume that if I wanted a 100" screen the distance would be about 10"?

I had this projector and have a 77CX. The contrast just wasn't quite good enough for me after having been spoiled by OLED. That being said, depending on the size of your basement the size may be a good tradeoff. One thing to note is that the screen I bought for it was not good, so I just projected it onto a white wall. I am sure a quality ALR screen would have helped, but I didn't have the desire to get one. Another thing to note is that the OS on this projector is garbage. My Fire Stick remote paired, but only controlled power and not volume.

The thing is, the blacks here aren't all washed out like most IPS displays... closer to VA. I own both a 65in OLED and a Short throw projector....I routinely prefer the projector and its no where near as good as the one in this post.
