Amazon's all-time average price on this drive is $60.68, so this will save you a couple bucks.

How is the elements line compared to the wd black series? Was going to hold off till the latter goes back on sale but this seems like a good deal.

I've had an external WD Elements for 7+ years which stores pictures and videos and have no issues, except that it has no space left. Looking for an external drive to replace it. Definitely want something that won't flake out and lose data. Should I be looking for WD Black or something different/better?

I bought a number of the portable WD 5TB and Seagate 5TB portables, for around 80-90 dollars over the last few years (all work great) , why would I buy a 2TB portable for 57 dollars?

Maybe for 35 dollars on sale for 2 TB portable would be acceptable deal. But 57 dollars on sale for 2TB, would not be slick deal for me.

Good god this drive has been at the $60 mark for the last 4-5 years, you'd think it'd be cheaper by now.

You should be backing it up in multiple places if you don't want to lose it. There is no hard drive reliable enough to be the only backup.

You must not have been watching the prices of hard drives over the past year or two.

Amazon is a marketing site not a deal site so pretty much anything you find will be priced competetively with other retailers. All they offer is convenience and guarantees which is fine but not really necessary

Iagree I need a proper strategy for sure. I have stuff on OneDrive, Google Drive, CDs and hard-drives and I need to consolidate everything.

Would you recommend any particular line of hard-drives for long-term reliability? Thoughts on the one in this thread?

So I picked up 18TB 3.5 external WD for 13.88 per terabyte yesterday , and picked up my 5TB portables for around 16 dollars per terabyte, and the guys that bought this 2TB portable are paying 28.5 dollars per terabyte at the 57 dollar price.
