Big difference in size and weight. Deeper bass.

Beyond that, the 590s are 2.5 way.

You can use bookshelf speakers as front speakers. Try and get them ear level, by using a stand or placing on entertainment center.

Is that what you've currently got? If so, I don't think it would be too much of an upgrade. If you don't have an AVR with room correction like audyssey XT32 or Dirac Live, I'd look into that instead. I went from JBL S38ii's to the 590's and while I love the upgrade in directivity (s38's have a bad -15dB midrange dip at 10* off axis) and low frequency extension, they sounded basically identical after room correction.

Supposed to be? It depends what your needs are and how much room you have. I do have the 530's for surrounds and the 590's up front and they work fantastic in that configuration.

Yes, they have a ton of bass and they are 2.5 way.

Try them all at home, keep only what you like. Subjective tests and reviews are just that. Every room sounds different, and every ear has bias. It's your money so it's really your decision to make. I have read and seen bad things from just about every company on Earth. The worst offenses are more likely to end up as angry posts on the Internet.
They are indeed cheaply built but sound divine. I bought a pair of SVS Ultra bookshelves (4-5 times the price) and I hate to say it but I prefer the 530s. They wow me often.
Being waiting for these, they are highly regarded on avsforum and better than most speakers from Polk, klipsch etc that cost double this discounted JBLs.

Bought a pair of these a year ago when they dropped to $350/each. I have been very pleased with them. With free shipping and free returns, plus 2.5% cashback, this is a no-brainer if you're in the market.

I wonder what a 5.1 system would sound like with all 520's I know that speaker gets a lot of hate on here but I love mine and that $90 price is ridic. I'm always tempted to buy four more so I have everything matching.
Unless I missed something, I think this is the lowest price for the 590's in the past three years, if not ever.
$450 each seemed to be the previous lowest "sale price". I paid $450 ea. And I'm very happy with the sound value for the price. They don't get real loud like all my previous jbl speakers did in the past, but they have a fantastic musical clarity and vocal transparency to them. I think they're great speakers for the price.
According to some amazon reviews these have terrible build quality. Looking to replace my 2009 JB set, and looking and Bowen 600 Series Anniversary Edition or Klipsch 8000f.
