From what I can tell, this thing doesn't go on sales nearly as often as its 2020 variant used to last year. This does appear to be an all-time low for this 2021, 11th-gen version.
The 2020 version I have is my favorite of the many Chromebooks I've owned. It's not perfect (horrid speakers), but unreal value-to-dollars.
If memory serves, the 2021 is almost identical to the 2020 with exception of upgrade from 10th to 11th gen CPU (good) and moving from having USB-C ports on both sides to both on the left side (bad). If I was in the market I'd be happy with a 2020 version for $100 less.
OP says they are happy they didn't pull trigger on certified Acer refurb for $465, but I'd say that is arguable the better deal. I've purchased a bunch of refurbs from acercertified.com and they've all look brand new and worked absolutely perfectly. Chrome OS powerwashing is trivial to do. Saving the $35 even now would be tempting to me, but I understand if not everyone would agree.
There's an upcoming Acer Chromebook 513 that will have an identical form factor and screen, but with a MediaTek Kompanio 1380 processor. It's a 5-series instead of 7-series so will likely lead to a fairly low price point, especially during sales and for refurbs. This new MediaTek CPU is said to have impressive performance too. You can read more about the upcoming 513 here [pcmag.com], and see early video review here [youtube.com]. There's an article on the new MediaTek chip here [chromeunboxed.com].

The Recertified deal is actually even cheaper since it seems they don't charge tax. I have no issues with acer refurbs - my current chromebook is from there and going on 5 years strong - but I'm ok paying the difference here to have it new and for the easy returns/exchanges. If the refurb deal gets even better in the next 45 days I can always return the BB one.

Can you direct me to the promo you are talking about?
Thanks!
Also like others have mentioned the speakers are awful. My next chromebook will have some decent speakers.

The horsepower is also a completely unfair comparison, the Spin 713 (in the world of Chromebooks) is more of a productivity workhorse with the Core i5 and 3:2 screen while the Duet is better suited for more media consumption with the ability to dabble in productivity in a pinch with it's ARM processor and widescreen display.....which is a beauty of a screen btw.
Ask yourself what your use case is, if it leans more towards leisure I'd say the Duet, if you actually want to give it a go with a Chromebook as your primary machine for all possible tasks...I'd say the 713.
A 3rd middle-ground option not mentioned but worth researching: Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2, it has a QLED (not AMOLED but better than IPS screens in my experience), Core i3 (10th gen) but because of the 16:9 aspect ratio it definitely lends itself to being a more media friendly machine while having more power inside than the Duet 5.
You will hear the fan noise on the 713 & SGC2, though it is quieter on the Samsung tbh.
The Duet is also fixed storage, no micro SD slot for additional storage, the 713 & Samsung that I mentioned do have micro SD slots. The 713 also has the advantage of having a user-replaceable NVME storage option as well, none of the models have the option to upgrade RAM.
