Yes, if you can make use of the extra 2(4) cores. If not, no. Most people will not need those extra cores so I recommend saving the $60 and dump that into more RAM or a faster SSD.

Edit: I went through this decision some months back. Should I get a 5600X or 5800X or a 5900X? I had a 3600 but given my work (scientific computing), 6 cores were not enough. Prices were still high then and I went with the 5900X because for an extra $100 over the 5800X I got 12 cores (24 logical processors) versus the 8 (16). Going from a 6 core processor to a 12 core one was a huge jump for me. 6 to 8 really wouldn't have made much of a difference. I can use the cores and already had a lot of RAM and fast SSDs.

Most people recommend the 5900X or the 5600X over the 5800X. The 5900X isn't that much more (normally) that people should probably just skip the 5800X if they really need more cores. Otherwise the 5600X will be plenty.

Now, at the $300 price range it's a more difficult choice between the 5800X and a 5900X. The 5900X is still usually more than $500. With this current price, I'd rather get the 5800X than the 5900X and save $200+. That's a motherboard or RAM or a nice SSD or Apple stock.

Also possible they are discounting to reduce supply due to the future release of the 5800X3D this year.

is this worth the 60.00 over the 5600X?

Would this be a upgrade from a 3700x for gaming?
In 1080p gaming yes. Anything 1440p or 4k would be GPU bound.

Any b550 or x570 board with the bios updated.

What kind of build are you planning to do? Huge tower, small form factor, micro atx?

Had my eye on this, was going to buy it over the weekend but glad I didn't.
Was out of stock at Best Buy but I went right before they closed. They price matched and I can pick it up in the morning when they open

Yeah man, if you're going to overclock, maybe get an x570 board. If you're going to run stock, you can do a b450 or b550. Just make sure to update the Bios. Some MOBOs run the 5 series chips out the box.

Given that AMD is switching over to a new socket this year, when do we expect prices for these older socket CPUs & motherboards to drop? Or is there such a pent up demand that price drops will be negligible? 🤔

Guess inventory is getting back to normal so prices are finally coming down to where they should be.
Yes to #1 no to #2 quite yet

My friend walked into the store mid day today said there was no 3060 Ti left but a stack of 3060 12gb gen 4 so he grabbed one

The etherium nerf helped

I bought one last night. I went with the intention of getting a 5600X. I forgot I had a $100 gift card, so I decided to spring for the 5800X. Right now, I'm trying to decide which system I want to upgrade. I have about three spare B550 motherboards and a spare X570 motherboard. My gaming machine has a 3700X with an x470 Taichi, so I could drop it into that system without a motherboard swap. Also thinking about just moving the both X470 mobo and 3700x to my editing machine. Then I can use one of these 5XX motherboards finally.

Have an asrock x370 taichi with the beta bios and a 1700x. Debating between 5600 and 5800. 5600 means a drop in number of cores. Already have an aftermarket cooler. 5800 is feeling like the way to go. If boards were cheaper I'd jump to the new intels.
