I'm not saying don't put a device from Facebook inside your house, but I'd let Amazon put an always on camera viewed directly by Jeff Bezos before I'd put a Facebook device in my house.

Didn't know this existed. I'd pay $250 for a 10 pack.

No offense, I know lots of people think this way since I see it on every Facebook related product, but Facebook didn't/doesn't care about spying on you or other as individuals. It's the bulk user data that's valuable / what they're interested in, for ads and research purposes. I'm positive there's no workers viewing your own personal cams on these devices or whatever, especially when you consider you're one of millions with the product.

Don't get me wrong, I agree it's wrong, illegal, and an invasion of privacy (aka why they got fined), but all I'm saying is that if thousands of people think this same way and aren't buying their products because of this, that's part of the reason why they're offering these deals right now / in the future. Hey I'll continue buying their products if they offer cheaper prices than their google/Amazon/other competition for similar features because of this thinking, whether it's misguided or not. Also I'm sure they're pretty heavily regulated now given their public exposure.

I'd let Amazon watch me 24x7 and Apple record my whole life before I bring a Facebook device into my household.

Honestly, these are good as a dedicated Zoom device if you don't need to share your screen during a meeting.

Secondary, While limited in scope of apps available. You can pretty much use most streaming services via the built-in web browser just like you would on a laptop/computer.... you can even pair a trackpad/mouse and keyboard via Bluetooth to get better usability.

They are basically better featured Echo Shows so if you are in the Alexa ecosystem, almost a no-brainer.

P.S.... They make kickass use of Plex next to the bed or in the kitchen.

yesterday I mentioned out loud - with my phone (google) and my hockeypuck (amazon) within earshot - that I needed to buy some bottled water because we were out... a few hours later I get an email from our grocery store with a coupon for a free 24-pack of bottled water. coincidence? perhaps.......

I agree no brainer price to use for Alexa functions and Plex. I'd buy these if I didn't already buy several of the 15.6" models when they were clearanced for $99. Great kitchen device.

You've been given a view this week into just how precious that data is. It now makes sense that chrome cast and firestick loose money when you buy them. At this point I'm ready to start brokering device usage for price off msrp. I'll assume that's what Musk is cornering with his starlink, like block sites or apps if they don't proved user data etc….
