I bought an open box 65" Sony A8F OLED from BuyDig a couple years ago. Zero flaws or burn-in and it's been performing flawlessly. It was double boxed for shipping as well.

What doesn't CPS's TV extended warranty cover?
This warranty does not cover any kind of damage to the TV, the cost of removal or reinstallation, or burn in on the television screen. Stolen TVs are also not covered.

I found that on thier website but it's contradictory to what's shown on the box on the Buydig website...

Since this model number include the "CJ" - that probably means these are Costco returns from last fall when they had the $1799 deal for this model TV. Costco has a generous return policy so it is feasible some were returned for reasons not related to faulty performance (like return/rebuy if would not price match, decided to buy from another store as many retailers offer the $1799 price last October, or opted to return the 65" and get the 77" instead as the 77 went on sale at Costco around Black Friday).
There was a similar slick deal a few weeks ago from Secondipity that also had the "CJ" model, so perhaps Costco had an influx of returns to liquidate - they do not typically re-sell returns as open box in store

With that being said, this "refurb" status might have a better chance of being almost like new condition as opposed to other refurb sales on sites like Woot that are more "scratch and dent" of a previous year's model - and thus more of a shot in the dark on what condition you might get if you pull the trigger.

This is better than the LG A1 65" that is the same price at Costco right now. Yes, you go not get the Costco extended warranty you would get if you have the Costco Visa. But that warranty does not cover burn in and still requires you to go through a 3rd party to make a claim (can't just bring it back to Costco if in year 2 something malfunctions).

Anyone know if this is eligible to receive the 10 free movie credits through Sony Bravia Core service - https://electronics.sony.com/bravia-core ?

Well... not necessarily useless. There are laws in place to protect consumers in these instances. Certainly could be a real PIA if this is contradictory to the actual T&C and you need to file a claim. I'd advise anyone buying this to take screen shots and be prepared to wait with lots of emails and phone calls.

It is more complicated than that, it all depends on your state's Consumer Protection laws, some progressive states actually protect the consumer and has good laws in the books, so when you have a problem the States Attorney consumer protection office helps you, even contacts the manufacturer on your behalf. Other states also have consumer protection but just on paper, they don't actually help you, sometimes the state creates more hurdles to protect the business or manufacturer, and after you go over those hurdles they say you have the right to sue the company. Mad Who is going to do all that for a $1k TV?

I've lived in both type of states and had to do a Lemon Law for a defective car and luckily at that time I was living in a progressive state with good regulations, they helped me get my money back and get a new car. Having regulations is sometimes good. It was my mistake for buying a VW for the first time and I will never buy one again. I would treat the warranty as worthless and this is a Sony so you should be good.

I hear you. In this case it could probably fall under the FTC jurisdiction. The FTC acts on behalf of all consumers. Advertising and Marketing on the Internet, Section 5, would cover anything that misleads consumers or affects a consumers decision about buying a product.</p><p> </p><p>


Again, all of this is a real PIA and can take some time to resolve. </p>

I should have stated that I have the Sony A80J , but not from this deal, purchased it last year. I do not know the CPS specific warranty details. Their site is down, but I was able to dig up a different warranty of theirs, that calls this out:

"h. If you have purchased exchange coverage, which is specified, on your bill of sale your product will be replaced if the failure is covered by the Plan's terms and conditions. Replacement terms in General Conditions (c) apply."

From a poster on a different site, that was only offered a refund on the warranty only when they couldn't source a repair tech, I myself would assume it may apply to this warranty as well. I can't say for sure though, a reputable company should make their Terms and Conditions openly available.

Just to follow up with the CPS warranty, I contacted BuyDig and they told me it's only burn in and accidents, HOWEVER, I contacted CPS and spoke with a rep and she was like yeah, it covers everything, basically anything happens to the TV hardware wise that requires repair they will attempt to fix it if you have a technician in your area (I also checked and had multiple techs in my area, but you may want to call before committing to buy). If they don't have a tech, sounds like they just refund you the $250...would not recommend buying the TV if that is the case.

As far as software issues, they don't cover that, Sony does, so if you choose to update your firmware on this TV right away, you will be stuck dealing with Sony and the 90 days, after that you are SOL. It's a bit of a roll of the dice from what I have seen with this TV. Hopefully Sony pumps out the VRR update for this within the next 90 days.

Also, this TV is shipping out straight FedEx so I advise everyone to check their TV immediately upon receipt, or help the FedEx guy deliver it to your door. Get that utility knife ready to open the box upon receipt.

Ugg, first a speaker deal from ASD, now this. Pulled the trigger to replace a 2009 Samsung PN58B530 58", hacked to be a 580, and calibrated via D-Nice settings. Hoping the refurb will be set up better out of the box. Primary as HT running blu-ray through a Denon Receiver. I did pick up a 4k fire stick.

I took my hard drive loaded with Despecialized E4-E6, 1080 content to a friend's house who has the 65" A80J, then watched it at home right after. I thought the picture was comparable (after turning off all the boosts and going to cinema mode).

Looking forward to moving forward, although I still have a 55" VT50 in the living room (bought off CL for $400)

I will miss the Samsung's swivel base Frown but am happy for the headphone jack.

Pulled trigger on this deal after going through a couple of options and landed on an open box Vizio 65" OLED at BBY for about the same price as this a80j with GSP 5 yr warranty. Coming from a 55" 5 year old Samsung LCD TV bought at Costco, so it's been a while and my PS5, XSX, and most movies don't look that great with it anymore compared to newer TVs and OLEDs. Vizio OLED isn't bad PQ and everything somewhat works, but the UI and Smartcast is sooo damn buggy (settings dont save, always have to switch out, etc). Not sure how this product got out with all those issues not ironed out... Vizio reddit is just full of people with the same issues and problems unresolved/unanswered. Returning the Vizio for sure to avoid future nightmares and hopefully this A80J works out. I had also tested out the Sony x85J, but PQ not as good as an OLED for sure. I loved the Sony A80J after looking at it at BBY, but it was way over my budget albeit not as bright as the x85J, which makes sense comparing that to an OLED. Luckily this deal got posted and fits my budget, hopefully it gets delivered with no issues! Google TV is def much better interface than most other TVs I've seen. Will report back on how things go once I get it on Tuesday, wish me luck - I'm def opening the box before Fedex guy leaves to make sure no visible damage on the screen. Had bad experience with Amazon delivering TVs and screen was full on damaged...
