I bought an open box 65" Sony A8F OLED from BuyDig a couple years ago. Zero flaws or burn-in and it's been performing flawlessly. It was double boxed for shipping as well.

What doesn't CPS's TV extended warranty cover?
This warranty does not cover any kind of damage to the TV, the cost of removal or reinstallation, or burn in on the television screen. Stolen TVs are also not covered.

I found that on thier website but it's contradictory to what's shown on the box on the Buydig website...

EDIT: found it. burn in is covered-

https://www.buydig.com/shop/produ...r-1500-ACC

Features

Accidental Damage coverage
Warranty covers the purchased product against defects in material or workmanship for 4 years starting 30 days after purchase
Impact Damage
Dropping while moving or mounting the TV
From kids playing ball in the house
Burn in covered - usually not covered by the OEM
Remote Control replacement - hot swap, no question asked
Tech Support Included - initial product setup and/or configuration
Authorized service dispatched by Consumer Priority Service

Since this model number include the "CJ" - that probably means these are Costco returns from last fall when they had the $1799 deal for this model TV. Costco has a generous return policy so it is feasible some were returned for reasons not related to faulty performance (like return/rebuy if would not price match, decided to buy from another store as many retailers offer the $1799 price last October, or opted to return the 65" and get the 77" instead as the 77 went on sale at Costco around Black Friday).
There was a similar slick deal a few weeks ago from Secondipity that also had the "CJ" model, so perhaps Costco had an influx of returns to liquidate - they do not typically re-sell returns as open box in store

With that being said, this "refurb" status might have a better chance of being almost like new condition as opposed to other refurb sales on sites like Woot that are more "scratch and dent" of a previous year's model - and thus more of a shot in the dark on what condition you might get if you pull the trigger.

This is better than the LG A1 65" that is the same price at Costco right now. Yes, you go not get the Costco extended warranty you would get if you have the Costco Visa. But that warranty does not cover burn in and still requires you to go through a 3rd party to make a claim (can't just bring it back to Costco if in year 2 something malfunctions).

Anyone know if this is eligible to receive the 10 free movie credits through Sony Bravia Core service - https://electronics.sony.com/bravia-core ?

I want to add something that is odd and a bit annoying with the Bravia Credits, they will only allow you access to the movies until 2026 at which time they will expire and you will no longer have access to the movies. These credits are meant only so you can test and experience the television and are not meant for you to keep apparently. Kind of lame, but it is what it is. Also, I looked into it and these movies do not transfer to Movies Anywhere like purchased Sony titles do.

I would basically treat the Bravia Core credits like long-term rentals.

Chatting with Sony now:

I'm afraid to inform you that Sony does not sell refurbished products.

but do you refurbish TVs for others to sell?

I'm afraid to say no.

So if a seller is advertising factory refurbished, it was not done by sony?

I'm sorry, we do not have the exact information regarding that. However, I will help you with the sales team contact details, so that they will help you with the accurate information.

Maybe just a bad chat rep. When I called technical support, I got disconnected. Hoping this is legit.

=============================================================================================================

Arrived double boxed (laying flat in Fed Ex truck, ugg). Accepted delivery because no major punches or dents in the outer box (on edge had a hole). Inside a retail box minus the base quick releases (band straps and tape). Black tape over 3 year warranty labels. Box has a sticker with barcode and serial number announcing it is refurbished.

No power cord zip tie or batteries. TV inside looks clean. Waiting for help with the feet so I can test. Strange that when you select narrow feet, the feet slant in towards the middle.

total time, boot count, panel time: 00494 00073 00494 Green button = 452/0, so no panel refreshes. Strange that hours are out of sync.

Got my TV yesterday. Not sony refurbished at all, false adverdisment on buydig. 33 hours on mine and nothing wrong with it so far. Basically looks like a return item. I'm pissed a buydig for lying on description since a lot of these will have problems. Anyone contact the seller succesfully asking for reduction in price?

Yeah Buy Dig is definitely a sketchy company and honestly SD staff should be looking at blocking them from the site. I went to register my television with CPS warranty and it showed the warranty date of November 4, 2021 and it auto filled the name Beach Camera.

So I am guessing that there is no 90 day Sony warranty here, it was just an open box return that Buy Dig (AKA Beach Camera) is just flipping to their other site and calling it something else. Extremely misleading for the consumer, and highly suspect.

I was lucky and got a good quality return, but a lot of people on here had some horror stories because of these practices.

Oh BTW on the CPS warranty, it shows it covers "standard warranty" on their website which they implied was the same as the manufacturer warranty as well as accidental which is damage from general usage of the item, OLED burn in, or damage from mounting, etc. but what I find very odd is that it does not cover in-home repair so you would have to find a repair person and drop the TV off and they would maybe cover it? Honestly confused.

Mine came in a plain box with the normal box inside (with tape on the OG box). Hours came in at 115. Maybe a slight bend on the at the bottom corners when looking at the side/back. Nothing noticeable with the panel itself. No lines or dings on the screen. Looks great.

Wish I could keep mine, but the frame bend is so bad I can notice it while watching.

I contacted buydig to see if they would deal to avoid return. Only offered $200 off. Going back tomorrow.

I have a very slight bend in mind apparently bending is normal for OLED TVs. I only notice the bend when looking at the back of the panel though.

I did notice that when I stare extreme off angle like 170 degrees on an all white screen there are two vertical black bars and I wonder if this is due to bending or Something I should be concerned with.

My panel is full on glossy has a build date of Sept 2021 and a pink hue on white screens so I'm like 90% sure I got one with the new EVO panel

Got mine delivered today.

TV was double boxed and packaged well.
Appears brand new and had less than 1 hour uptime
Logged into the service menu and everything there also had all zeros for uptime.

So far it looks like I may have won the refurb lotto....so far....time will tell

Thanks to the OP!

Any source on the info that glossy screens may be consistent with newer hardware? I have seen some threads with the 55" and 65" versions having a more matte screen. I'd like to read more about this.

My version is also glossy, and I've had no issues with glare, and I have sliding glass doors just adjacent to the TV.

It's more the pink hue on white screens and the build date. I checked my LG B8 (glossy) in my office against my Sony A80J and my old Vizio (semi gloss) and this Sony A80J sits right in between the two.

I would definitely say my Sony A80J is more glossy than matte. reflections are almost perfectly clear and light doesn't refract like it does in a matte screen

Did they send you the a90j by mistake? Smilie

But yeah, 65 a80j is semi-glossy and not the traditional matte.

Keeping the TV; the picture just looks too good not to (after settings changes). This is replacing a Samsung PN58C550 (with a scant 2512 hours on it).

You don't know you don't have true black until you have true black.

I am glad I got this instead of a used Panasonic ZT60. Makes me want to replace the VT50 in the living room. I used the non service mode settings below.
