Rumor has it Amazon will be increasing their prime membership to $139.

The price of Amazon Prime Membership will increase from $119/year to $139/year. The change will occur sometime in the next month or so (possibly on March 1, 2022). Prime Student price is also increasing from $59/year to $69/year.

Suggestion

You can lock in the $119 price by purchasing a Gift of Prime membership. These cost $119 right now and they never expire – set your Prime membership not to auto-renew by cancelling the membership using the 'Manage My Membership' tab, and then when it expires you'll apply the Gift of Prime to your account. (You won't lose your full current membership year when cancelling membership, as will be clear on the final screen; they even give the option on the final screen to 'pause' membership.)

Come on man. This increase is a 16% increase since 2018. Inflation over years: 2019 (2.3%, 2020 (1.4%), 2021 (7.0%). Be smarter about your assumptions.

Yes. Years ago I made the mistake of letting my account expire so that I can use a prime membership code I bought on sale. Found out after I was no longer on the grandfathered plan. My family members were booted.

Why the increase?
So billionaires can indulge in more space fantasies instead of working on the planet's problems more directly

For those that have people grandfathered in to the sharing prime benefits to 4 others, will doing it this way end up canceling the grandfathered plans?
Yes, happened to me last year.

Lmao samday and 1-day shipping is free in China from big retailers.
Many big businesses there are also heavily subsidized and directed by the government, a bit different than in the US and other countries.

Seems like the price increases every 4 years.
So $159 in 2024...starting to cost as much as a Disneyland park hopper ticket...

The prices are going across everything and everywhere including gas, labor and materials.

All the increased government spending and free money to sit at home gets us to this.
Inflation and Fed sitting at the wheel.

Politicians and rich get rebate and loopholes; poor gers subsidies and middle class keep debating and gets punished.

So you... or someone is proposing tying up $120 for 'several years' in order to save $20. That doesn't seem to make good sense to me.

Additionally given that prime has moved to 'several days' instead of 2 day shipping I'm starting to fail to see the value. Their video library is second rate at best and I don't use any of the other benefits so it's creeping outside of reasonable for me.

To everyone leaving.......You'll be back. You all will be back. This is what we created and asked for when we laughed at the brick and mortar stores and gave them the middle finger salute and laughed at their demise. Stores like Circuit City, Sears, Media Play, Barnes & Noble, Borders, Frys, Blockbuster, Sam Goody, ToysRUs, Radio Shack, Linens & Things, HHGregg, CompUSA, HiFi Buys, The Wiz, Pier1 Imports, Levitz Furniture, KMart, Hancocks Fabrics, Babbages, Builders Emporium....and I could go on and on. These stores aren't coming back. Ever. The sad part is that we will keep adding to the list until our cities and towns are overrun with Family Dollar Stores, gas stations, fast food restaurants, and the occasional WalMart. We wished extinction on all of these stores and praised the Amazon e-commerce model, and in the process we have created an entity that's damn near too big to fail - and getting bigger. Sadly, the biggest selection of ANYTHING you are looking for is on Amazon. So, you may hate Amazon and cancel Prime now, but you'll be back - you literally won't have a choice. Bezos was never going to be satisfied with the initial $89/yr. Prime membership, and it won't be the last price increase. This is what we asked for, and this is what we deserve.
