Rumor has it Amazon will be increasing their prime membership to $139.

The price of Amazon Prime Membership will increase from $119/year to $139/year. The change will occur sometime in the next month or so (possibly on March 1, 2022). Prime Student price is also increasing from $59/year to $69/year.

Suggestion

You can lock in the $119 price by purchasing a Gift of Prime membership. These cost $119 right now and they never expire – set your Prime membership not to auto-renew by cancelling the membership using the 'Manage My Membership' tab, and then when it expires you'll apply the Gift of Prime to your account. (You won't lose your full current membership year when cancelling membership, as will be clear on the final screen; they even give the option on the final screen to 'pause' membership.)

Come on man. This increase is a 16% increase since 2018. Inflation over years: 2019 (2.3%, 2020 (1.4%), 2021 (7.0%). Be smarter about your assumptions.

Yes. Years ago I made the mistake of letting my account expire so that I can use a prime membership code I bought on sale. Found out after I was no longer on the grandfathered plan. My family members were booted.

I share mine with my wife, does this mean we're also on such a grandfathered plan?
I doubt being on a grandfathered plan gives you any benefit, the rate still going up.

Meh. While I'm never a fan of price increases, $20 isn't going to force anyone into bankruptcy and isn't worth all the diatribe. Buy 2 less drinks at $tarbuck$ a year. Big deal.
This is Slickdeals and we squabble over pennies here... $20 yearly, that is a fortune! 😄

All kidding aside $20 isn't much to some people, but others are being stretched to the max with rising inflation.

I've been toying with the idea of re-subscribing, but this makes it easy. I deleted my Amazon account over a year ago and haven't missed doing business with them, and I guess I'll continue not doing business with them. wave

$119 USD from 2018 is equal to $132 USD in 2022. So you are correct that 139/132 an = actual price increase of 5% over 2018 prices. Are you really that mad about a 5% increase ? I'm not.

Can you imagine the amount of fuel all of those Amazon trucks and vans use? The huge increase in that alone would be cause for the increase. Unfortunate, but everything that comes on a truck is going up...

Or or, hear me out, they could go back to 2 day shipping. I mean that was the whole selling point of Prime
I have ordered hardly anything on Amazon since the shipping changed from 2 day to 10+ days. I'd rather just go to the store or order on Walmart 2-day. I wish they'd at least let you ship 2-day shipping twice a month, or something. This price increase plus the long shipping time sucks. No way.

The more you join the more it goes up. Plentiful supply of gullible customers unfortunately. One of the reasons phones, cars and other things are so Expensive, we keep on paying.

Lock in your price of prime for $119. You can buy the gift of membership as many as you want but can use one at a time.

Are you sure about this? I just read this entire thread up to this point, and your post is the first one that mentions that you can buy, and actually successfully use, as many Gift of Prime memberships as you want (spaced apart each year).
Everyone else has posted that you can at most get MAYBE two (one for 2022, one for 2023).

Anyone else have any input on this? Can you really buy 3+ of these gift memberships for use even in the distant future (i.e. years down the road)?

Yes, you can. As long as you purchase before the price increase, you can redeem each one every time your prime sub ends. I've done this during the last price increase. Just make sure you redeem it after you let your prime sub lapse.

Yeah but I need my wife to have the Prime benefit on her account as well. If letting it expire will not allow me to share the Prime benefit anymore I can't really afford to do this. There's lots of other stuff tied to both of our accounts.
