Rumor has it Amazon will be increasing their prime membership to $139.

The price of Amazon Prime Membership will increase from $119/year to $139/year. The change will occur sometime in the next month or so (possibly on March 1, 2022). Prime Student price is also increasing from $59/year to $69/year.

Suggestion

You can lock in the $119 price by purchasing a Gift of Prime membership. These cost $119 right now and they never expire – set your Prime membership not to auto-renew by cancelling the membership using the 'Manage My Membership' tab, and then when it expires you'll apply the Gift of Prime to your account. (You won't lose your full current membership year when cancelling membership, as will be clear on the final screen; they even give the option on the final screen to 'pause' membership.)

Come on man. This increase is a 16% increase since 2018. Inflation over years: 2019 (2.3%, 2020 (1.4%), 2021 (7.0%). Be smarter about your assumptions.

Yes. Years ago I made the mistake of letting my account expire so that I can use a prime membership code I bought on sale. Found out after I was no longer on the grandfathered plan. My family members were booted.

the price of prime i think is still worth it, and it's not hard to figure out how to open a student account. if you get one heavier item like a piece of furniture or whatever, that $139 (or $69) just paid for itself on that one purchase. and as a prime member, you can chat up support any time there's an issue, and they give you credits, additional months of Prime service, etc. not shilling for Bezos, that's for damn sure, but just checking my account, i placed 252 orders in 2021 lol. i make sure to get my money's worth, and i place orders on behalf of several family members as well under that one subscription
Best buy gives you free next day shipping after you spend $3500 over a year. Amazon prime makes you PAY for more days, prime is becoming less useful and valuable with this change.

Welp, guess that's the last straw. I was already on the fence about renewing for a 18th year, and this made the decision easy.
100% this. i was already set to let it expire. this seals it. done.

Unpopular opinion, it seems, but It's probably been a decade since Amazon has consistently offered deals good enough to justify the cost prime membership by free shipping alone alone. Most of their deals are just price-matching other competitors (Target, Walmart, Best Buy). At least when comparing prices for things in my area I struggle to find anything Amazon sells for less. Other than that Amazon's big impact on my life has been that my kids get the most chintzy, generic, no-name Chinese toys from their grandparents because the grandparents don't understand that Amazon is just a huge marketplace for generic, low quality e-waste. I've had Prime 2 times during that timeframe and when the $80 or $60 promo rate expired, I dropped it and continued to make probably 3 or 4 purchases a year as I had before, usually over that $25 free shipping threshold anyhow. The prime video was a nice perk, and probably the only thing I missed, but Hulu's annual $2/month annual subscription deal means that losing Prime Video doesn't really hurt. I'm sure they will have no problem collecting $139, but I just don't see it.
This very website promotes Amazon over the other two on nearly every post.

Users of this website love their Amazon Prime, so when Best Buy has a deal on a blu-ray, they wait until Amazon matches. Or when Target runs a gift card promo on household goods, they wait until Amazon matches. People, consumers should really reward retailers for deals. Not price match, as that does not spur competition.

Half of the deals on the FP are Amazon Chinesium.

$139 is pretty steep when I still have to pay $3.99 for the movies I want to watch
Couldn't agree with you more. I can't tell you how many times someone recommended a movie and I see it's available on prime but then realize I got to pay for it

You're dating yourself. The shipping isn't even top 3. Video, games, music, photo storage, then maybe shipping. It's just as good as Netflix and offers way more for less.
Just as good as Netflix, are you trolling?🤣 Amazon prime and sexy time? Never heard of it

Bezos just had the largest yacht in the world built for him. I guess this will let him make another one.

Yea, I don't need prime that bad. I have no problem just waiting until I have enough stuff to qualify for free shipping regardless.

"Prime shipping" isn't even 2 days anymore most of the time. So what exactly is someone getting out of this fee? It just comes off as greedy. Amazon isn't hurting for money.

Blame it on LOTR series coming to Prime this yr. The production cost is massive.

Come on people, give Jeff a break. Do you know how expensive it is to dismantle a 145 year old bridge to get a half billion dollar yacht out to sea?

Yikes, first they decide they aren't going to do 2 day delivery and now they are raising the price.
