Rumor has it Amazon will be increasing their prime membership to $139.

The price of Amazon Prime Membership will increase from $119/year to $139/year. The change will occur sometime in the next month or so (possibly on March 1, 2022). Prime Student price is also increasing from $59/year to $69/year.

Suggestion

You can lock in the $119 price by purchasing a Gift of Prime membership. These cost $119 right now and they never expire – set your Prime membership not to auto-renew by cancelling the membership using the 'Manage My Membership' tab, and then when it expires you'll apply the Gift of Prime to your account. (You won't lose your full current membership year when cancelling membership, as will be clear on the final screen; they even give the option on the final screen to 'pause' membership.)

Come on man. This increase is a 16% increase since 2018. Inflation over years: 2019 (2.3%, 2020 (1.4%), 2021 (7.0%). Be smarter about your assumptions.

Yes. Years ago I made the mistake of letting my account expire so that I can use a prime membership code I bought on sale. Found out after I was no longer on the grandfathered plan. My family members were booted.

Blame it on LOTR series coming to Prime this yr. The production cost is massive.

I'm a "life-long" LOTR fan and even I'm worried about the series. Praying that it's good and they don't try to "Game of Thrones" it...

Reality is although I like Prime, if I didn't have it, I'd probably spend less money. That is kind of the point. You're paying money to spend more money.

You can cancel auto-renewal and once your membership expires apply the gift of membership.
There is no option to cancel auto-renewal for the membership at the web UI.
Please let me know where do you see such option?

This very website promotes Amazon over the other two on nearly every post.

Users of this website love their Amazon Prime, so when Best Buy has a deal on a blu-ray, they wait until Amazon matches. Or when Target runs a gift card promo on household goods, they wait until Amazon matches. People, consumers should really reward retailers for deals. Not price match, as that does not spur competition.

Half of the deals on the FP are Amazon Chinesium.
This is so true. BestBuy, Lowes, Costco & Walmart or direct retailers run better promotions by far and way better deals than amazon on some stupid unwanted landfill products.
For what its worth, use friends or family accounts to get some juice out of prime.

the price of prime i think is still worth it, and it's not hard to figure out how to open a student account. if you get one heavier item like a piece of furniture or whatever, that $139 (or $69) just paid for itself on that one purchase. and as a prime member, you can chat up support any time there's an issue, and they give you credits, additional months of Prime service, etc. not shilling for Bezos, that's for damn sure, but just checking my account, i placed 252 orders in 2021 lol. i make sure to get my money's worth, and i place orders on behalf of several family members as well under that one subscription
While this is true, bear in mind that for most prices on Amazon, shipping is already factored into the price, so Prime doesn't get you as much as you think. They price match a few common consumer items at the same price as Target/Walmart (loss leaders) but for most other things, shipping is essentially priced in. OR they will sell you a 4-pack or 5-pack of the same thing at Target to make it worth their shipping costs.

If you consistently use Target or Walmart pickup instead of Amazon, for example, you will notice the difference. Your strategy of ordering for multiple households is also a good way to save on Prime costs but for a single household, $140 is not a great deal, especially when there are Target/Walmart stores close by and most stores have an order pick up option these days.

I opted out of prime when it jumped to $119 years ago.

I've purchase only a handful of items from amazon, and only when my shopping cart met the free shipping threshold. Plus, I basically use Amazon to check product reviews. Never even took advantage of their prime streaming either while I was a member.

I've been on the fence for some time about ditching Prime. Service has become sketchy, food is not always fresh, and a few times since the pandemic Amazon has even sent used, counterfeit, or completely wrong items.

I do use Prime video quite a lot however, not a Netflix fan, so that is what keeps me hooked. Decisions, decisions ….
Prime days usually have great deals though. Maybe join Prime for a month during those days?

This thread reinforces the point, people love to complain, and voice grievances. If this thread is a reflection of public sentiment Prime is going to lose 80% of their members. laugh out loud

Why the increase?
Labor and supply shortage causing an increase in costs. Amazon's e-commerce business is doing poorly the past few quarters. They need to raise the price of Prime to mitigate the loss of their profits.

This might be the perfect excuse for me to cancel my membership. Their customer support has gone downhill. No free returns either.
I've never had to pay for a return with Amazon. Maybe it's due to the reason for return. Are you just changing your mind about stuff you bought, or is there a legit return reason?

Prime just posted an amazing profit for the last quarter, so they are not worried. Total cost with new increase will break down to $11.58 a month. That's still less than what I pay for Netflix or HBO Max. But with Prime I get free shipping and I use that about 5-6 times a month. Also get all their original programming, their music streaming, free books to read each month and great customer service. Also if your a gamer, they give a lot of sweet gaming freebies!

There is not a labor shortage. There is a shortage of workers willing to continue to work for exploitative-level wages and/or in shitty work-environments.

Their profits are so astronomical, they could easily afford to improve this, but they choose not to.

I added friends a long time ago under their old sharing plan.

But I can't find any record of it now. Anyone know how to find a list of the people we added way back when now that their grandfathered?
