Rumor has it Amazon will be increasing their prime membership to $139.

The price of Amazon Prime Membership will increase from $119/year to $139/year. The change will occur sometime in the next month or so (possibly on March 1, 2022). Prime Student price is also increasing from $59/year to $69/year.

Suggestion

You can lock in the $119 price by purchasing a Gift of Prime membership. These cost $119 right now and they never expire – set your Prime membership not to auto-renew by cancelling the membership using the 'Manage My Membership' tab, and then when it expires you'll apply the Gift of Prime to your account. (You won't lose your full current membership year when cancelling membership, as will be clear on the final screen; they even give the option on the final screen to 'pause' membership.)

Come on man. This increase is a 16% increase since 2018. Inflation over years: 2019 (2.3%, 2020 (1.4%), 2021 (7.0%). Be smarter about your assumptions.

Yes. Years ago I made the mistake of letting my account expire so that I can use a prime membership code I bought on sale. Found out after I was no longer on the grandfathered plan. My family members were booted.

yep been a prime member for a long time now and I'll give up Netflix, Costco, Sams club memberships before I give up Prime.
Costco membership is such a better value than Amazon Prime and Sams is essentially free.

There is no option to cancel auto-renewal for the membership at the web UI.
Please let me know where do you see such option?
They removed the ability to do it from your online account. You have to contact them via chat or call to have auto renew taken off.

Is that the manage household thing where you can share with one member and and add a teen and kid?

The problem is I don't need all that extra digital content and such. Ever since I canceled Prime 4 years ago, I managed to control my patience without 2 days shipping and combine multiple items. So far I've been still using Amazon but don't need Prime. I wonder why Amazon don't create different tiers of Prime to capture the demand surplus. May be the extra revenue not worth it?

Time to cancel. It was time to stop supporting Amazon anyway.

I'm out. With how much money Bezos is taking in the price increase has zero justification.
Exactly....AZ stocks just went a 1/4T....they really needed to stiff the people who made that possible.

There was a time when Prime meant 2 day shipping. That's maybe half my orders now. I don't listen to the music. Video, most of the time, I'm paying to rent, so little "free" content benefit. I am frustrated with all the cheap Chinese knock offs, those goofy names are the giveaway. Wish I could filter out that crap. I don't trust the reviews either. There are other deals to be had. Will be seriously considering not renewing. Especially like how inflation was called out as a reason. What inflation impacts does Amazon have?! (Insert Bezos laugh) Consumers on the other hand, we just pay more for everything.

Same here, my Prime runs out next month. If you've used Prime benefits already, you can't cancel (at least cancel and get a refund). You have to let it run out and make sure they take off auto renew (or cancel just before auto renew hits). They used to be awesome in shipping and customer service, but not any more. All good things must come to an end! Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

There is not a labor shortage. There is a shortage of workers willing to continue to work for exploitative-level wages and/or in shitty work-environments.

Their profits are so astronomical, they could easily afford to improve this, but they choose not to.
They are offering competitive wages and FULL benefits and as far as I have seen, clean working conditions. My first job was half of min wage and I was quite happy with the salary. No one forces anyone to take a job they don't want or a pay they won't accept.

Looks like I'm just going to have to ponder this a bit longer. My renewal date is in 3 days. Doesn't seem worth it to give them $119 dollars to hang on to for a whole year just to save $20.

Chances are good I'll hang on to it then though. Prime gives me *just* enough to make it worth it to me. (I'm including The Expanse and now Reacher in there with it.)

I weigh out the options every year and while this made me think about it a bit more, the price increase not affecting me made my decision that much easier. But that's just me.

I order tons of stuff, but a lot is under $35. It seems like I have to pay every time I use prime video. The other benefits are fairly useless. By canceling, I'll not only $139, I'll probably buy less crap. When I do need something, I'll keep it in my cart until the items total $35. Perfect timing to cancel! Thanks OP!

My prime expires in a few days. Thank god!
In that case, your auto-renewal would still be at the $119 price because the price doesn't increase for existing subscribers until mid-March.
