Totally disagree with this opinion.

IMO, at this price this grinder is a no brainer for anyone in the market for an inexpensive. America's Test Kitchen rates it their top inexpensive grinder.

ATK performed blind taste tests with the staff and Boston-area experts (coffee dealers, coffee shop owners, baristas and regular coffee drinkers), and no one could tell the difference between coffee made from grounds from bur vs blade grinders.

That suggests that uniform size of grounds has little to not detectable impact on flavor, even for coffee experts. Even more so for us regular coffee drinkers.

I've had this grinder for a few months and it's been great. I follow James Hoffman's instructions on approximating lattes and cappuccinos at home with this grinder and an aeropress and was shocked by how decent the coffee turned out.

Just keep in mind to pulse the grinder, then shake the grounds, then pulse again. This keeps grounds from hiding under the blade.
As good a place as any to start if you want to try the bean thing. But you'll buy a burr grinder sometime in the future, too.
My understanding is that this is the best of the worst coffee grinders

I use an Italian style stove top coffee maker. Should I get this or the Chefman grinder for finer ground coffee?

If Walmart has in stock, they have been from $13 to $20. When Walmart runs out of stock, as has happened, they have been as high as $30 from 3rd party sellers. I was looking for one before Christmas as a gift and it was close to $20 and just left in cart. About a week later, they had dropped back down to about this price, so I bought and shipped it.
I bought the last one they had at our local Wal-Mart so other people must have known about this deal. The cheapest I have seen this grinder at other retailers is $19.95. I notice there are different versions of this F203 grinder. While many say Made in China the one I got says Made In Colombia. Does any of that really matter?

(serious question) I was thinking since it says herb grinder, could I use this to grind marijuana "flower" in large batches without having to do it by hand in my regular grinder? I would like to use it for when I make oil / edibles. Or does anyone have a tried and true method for this? Thinking about an ounce at a time.
(note: weed is recreational in my state, not that that stopped me before)
Electric is awesome but im not sure about this particular model. But i may consider trying it for those purposes EDIT: i think an oz. may be too much (maybe 14g)esp for smoking flower...if you grind too long or pack too much in, it will powder up. and very dry or cured flower only takes one tap...so still very fast approach. also the lid collects massive amounts of "keif" over time, which is great for pressing.

I just looked and the one I have been using is made in Mexico. The more recently purchased 'spare' is made in China.

Does it matter? Well, it used to, but when politically imposed tariffs (basically a back door tax to the consumer to line the federal coffers) under the guise of increasing employment that obviously failed, I am moving towards free market ideology that is the lowest price to the consumer.

Automation [aei.org] is what has largely reduced employment in sectors that were once employee dependent. Soon, states that are imposing massive increases in minimum wage as a 'living wage' for the otherwise low literacy jobs will see those automated. As labor costs rise from the back breaking work of produce pickers to steel production, to even medical fields, automation is the viable replacement as more affordable with more production.

This is a reasonable take from the ATK video, but in my opinion not entirely accurate. As stated in the video, a large part of the value of a burr grinder over a blade grinder is ease of use and consistency. While their blind test concluded that experts had a hard time differentiating between the grinders (apparently when served in tiny plastic sample cups - wtf), they (understandably) don't test anyone's preference over a longer period of time. When using a blade grinder there will inevitably be variations in the quality of the coffee with every use. A burr grinder can essentially eliminate this. Also, and this is something I have heard many times from my customers (I am a barista), use of a blade grinder tends to result in the user gradually increasing their bean use over time until they hit a higher level than they once did. Many of my customers have told me they were surprised when they started going through less beans after upgrading to a burr grinder. This is because with a more even grind you end up with a higher level of total dissolved solids in the brewed coffee for the same amount of dry coffee - basically, you get more coffee per coffee.

I would also comment that the ATK video makes no reference to their brew method, coffee type, recipe, anything. If they're brewing up a big weak pot of Starbucks beans in a Mr. Coffee and serving it up in one ounce plastic sample cups then I'm not surprised that no one could tell the difference.

Purchased this grinder and got it in a day, just used it to grind some whole beans and worked really well. Capacity is good enough to get through any amount needed.

This grinder is awesome. You wouldn't expect much for a $20 coffee grinder, we had it on our registry and it did not disappoint. we've had it for nearly r years now and still works great. Grinds coffee (or any herb or veg, etc) to as course or fine as you want it. Definitely worth this price at 13$.... Thinking of buying another just cuz of the deal lol

All grinders will be loud. This brand also has the vortex silent version, which is basically the same thing, but silent.

I'm a bit late to the party, but amazon seems to have the same model for the same price.
